How do I add to Library from iOS trakt 3.0 (907)?

Here we go again… these GUI visual changes is driving me nuts… everything is moved around… How do i add to Library now on IOS Trakt beta? I can’t find it anywhere… I had to do it from Trakt Classic website… @Ohifriend

Ahh, this falls under the missing category - missed it in my personal testing as I don’t use it myself.

Right now it’s missing, so currently only via the classic website or downgrading for now if you use it that much. I’ll see what the plan is there, but at least temporarily it’ll be in the ••• menu in the near future.

@Ohifriend So does this mean that between the steering away from Library in this progression of the Beta, and also being a completely missing accessible feature in the newly designed website that Trakt is trying to no longer offer the option to track Collected / Library items?

If so, doesn’t this completely fly in the face of the development of Plex Sync that tracks items added to our Plex Libraries?

It’s beginning to look like not only is Trakt following in Plex footsteps making it harder to find our own library items along with this idea that horizontal scrolling is somehow a smart move, but also that Trakt is split internally on its development path.

So while it was otherwise missing to my understanding, the current plan is that later on in this beta period we will be looking to make your Library something that is automated, e.g. using Plex Sync and similar tools, or - as a conceptual idea, nothing concrete yet - to enable a way to add things to it in a way that is more convenient, e.g. scanning a barcode of the physical media. This is mainly because for a while now the Library (previously Collection) feature was otherwise misused where a List (or History/Watchlist) should’ve been used instead.

In the meantime, you’re more than welcome to use the existing tools, such as the classic website or third-party apps to do this until we can revisit. The current focus is getting back the other important features that are missing.

What? So now the function of library is going to be completely changed?

The reason why I “misuse” (as you call it) Library is because the way I use watchlist, especially for movies, is when the movie is digitally released is when I add movies to my watchlist. The reason why I do this is because right now, only movies in library and watchlist can show up in my calendar. I would put it in my custom list but if I do that releases won’t show up in my calendar. I put movies that are not released digitally in my library because I want to track when it is released in theaters.

If trakt team can give users the ability to allow selecting certain custom lists I create and items in that list can show up in my calendar, then I wouldn’t haven’t to “misuse” library.

I’ve asked for this feature of ability to select custom lists that I want items to show in my calendar to Justin on the past, but it was quickly shot down….

Not to try to tell you how to use the tool as it is, and perhaps you’ve detailed it before so feel free to link me if so, but just so that I understand, is there a reason then that you don’t put non-digitally released items into your Watchlist? Like is there a concrete example of your workflow for a recent movie or something else as to why having those items there is a problem?

I presume it’s related to literally not seeing them in your watchlist depending on how things are sorted or otherwise, but I’m still trying to understand the problem. If you could instead, for example, move them to the end if it’s sorted by rank, etc. And I presume we don’t have the data for when that happens (as in digitally is not the same as the DVD release date, etc.) in order to filter your watchlist based on that.

For what it’s worth, while I conceptually like the idea of the custom list being included in calendar, I’m unsure how viable it is so if it was deemed unviable previously it may or may not still be the case.

I only want to put stuff in my watchlist for movies that I’m able to stream digitally.

I want to be able to keep the following separated:

  1. Movies that hasn’t been released and movies released to theaters
  2. Movies that have been released digitally and available for me to watch at home

Basically I want my watchlist for items that are digitally released and that I want to watch.

I’m not really sure how people are misusing Library / Collected. Every single item in my Library is something I digitally or physically have.

And while hearing that there’s the potential of making it easier to add to by maybe scanning barcodes etc, and automation is awesome, obviously Plex Sync has a ways to go still considering how many are reporting issues, and manual handling of the items should still be possible. For example, occasionally Plex matches items wrong and need to be corrected.

The ability to mark something as digital and/or physical media type would be an added bonus for development though.

Sounds like you should be ok then.
As I mentioned, we may add other options whether manual or automatic, but at this point it’s just a lower priority for the beta UX features. Other clients still have existing management if necessary.
