I couldn’t find any official Apple documentation on this, but this might solve your issue:
Go to Safari and search for something on IMDb, eg. imdb deadpool
Long press the IMDb link to access the context menu
Choose ‘Open in IMDb’
From now on your IMDb links throughout iOS should open in the app rather than Safari/browser. You can do the opposite to have them open in Safari/browser by choosing ‘Open’ (aka Open/Continue in browser).
If that doesn’t work, I’m unsure what’s going on, you might be able to reset some settings of some sort in your system settings, or reinstalling IMDb might help.
I have tried
To uninstall and reinstall, I have tried both of those IMDb dots to open it from IMDb website since I have always only got the st#%@ website.
For me website is only for contributions.
Not my daily tracking activity I do use both trakt and IMDb
Trakt for exact time and notes
IMDb for correct title etc since tmbd sucks at that point
The problem is both in trakt and JustWatch
Show+ and movie+ apps works
But they don’t have to each episode only main show
1 of the reasons I went to trakt
Forgot to say iPhone works but not iPad at least until new update of IMDb on iPhone,
And I don’t know how I can get previous IMDb version back. Since I’m not I tester on IMDb
As I can on trackt
Did you try going from Google search like in my screenshots? Using the “open app” within IMDb is not the same thing as far as I understand it.
But if other apps are doing it and not Trakt or JustWatch it may be a separate system bug. Sometimes after installing an app it can take a little while for the deep links to start working as expected. Lots of weird iOS system “bugs” if you can call them that.
Even just testing now, when I open from an app or even from a test link in apple notes, it takes me to Safari and then that takes me to IMDb, which is different to when I took those screenshots in my first reply.
I’d give it a few days and see if it doesn’t just work again.
