the only way around it for now is to go to https://trakt.tv/signin to use your password. this option will be removed unfortunately at some point if it hasn’t already.
I share the frustration since i’d rather use my password manager as well

I’ve been a VIP for several years, but this is one of the things that may push me to stop supporting this website. I’m really not enjoying the “we know better than thou” attitude I am seeing here or the gaslighting that we are just misunderstanding and that this is just the same or better than what we had. It breaks automated login flows with password managers, forces users to pull their email app or website. It’s simply annoying and cumbersome. FFS this is the thread with most replies in weeks.
I’m a free user, simply using Trakt to scrobble my plays and maintain a small watchlist. I’ve been reading the plentiful complaints about the new V3 interface, and remember what V2 was like. I agree with all of them: V3 is a horrible regression that should NOT be forced on users. Keep developing it if you want. If/when it improves, users will CHOOSE to switch to it.
TBH, I get the feeling that the Trakt team designed the new interface to cater to the lowest common denominator, hoping to shed power users in favour of less-demanding customers.
Whether or not that’s true, the change to the login system is entirely detrimental - for everyone. Even (maybe especially!) casual users will be driven away by this stupid email verification login nonsense. Most users either let their browser store passwords for them, or use a separate password manager. They expect the login to be automated.
To have to switch to email, cut and paste a code or click a link (opening a separate tab) is a terrible user experience.
99% of websites choose this simple formula for authentication:
There is a reason that this is the “standard” list on most websites. It covers all the bases. Forcing users who don’t want a federated login to ping-pong to their email for links isn’t smart.
Fix this.
