Can it please be adjusted so “thumbs down” subtracts 1 point from the reactions (or at least doesn’t add a point) on movie/tv comments? A lot of the top comments now are spam comments, rage bait comments, comments before a movie has ever been released, or intentional aggressive spoilers, because every time someone gives a “thumbs down”, it seems to push the comment higher. “Thumbs down” should subtract rather than add. (See the top comment HERE for example. 39 “thumbs down” pushed a useless ragebait comment to the top.)
On the other side, some kind of timed flood control limit for “thumbs down” to prevent abuse.
Doesn’t really matter whether it has received more thumbs down or up, it’s the most active. Also plenty of other comments to that movie have a worse ratio of down to up. So how would you want it sorted?
The easiest way to circumvent this is to sort the comments by added date, rating, or replies, so it ignores reactions to the comment and fits more to what you’re seeking to gain from the comments.
Correct, it shouldn’t be put in order of “most active” when it’s active because of all the thumbs down. The ratio isn’t important. Sheer numbers matter. Not adding 1 point for a thumbs down, or adding zero points for a thumbs down would solve it.
Honestly I felt it was a poor decision to allow thumbs down voting. It creates a hive mentality just like Reddit. So like you said, it would be a purer representation if only thumbs up or replies were counted.
