The ‘Original Title’ value is not displayed for episodes in V3, but is visible in V2. This makes knowing which episode to watch next from the provider difficult.
Detailed description with additional context about the workflow
I have one show - Brookside - that is listed in numerical order by the streaming provider STV (as in the screenshot below). Sometimes, this provider doesn’t accurately track what I’ve watched (don’t ask me why, I just find this is the case occasionally). And so from Trakt V2 if I look at my Up Next, it will show the next episode in SxEE format. I’m fine with it being shown in this format, it’s the accepted norm. But if I click through to the episode details I can see the ‘Original Title’ value, and I can use this to quickly get to the episode I want at the provider.
V3 however… this value is not shown anywhere at all. I’ve looked everywhere, it’s just not there on web or on mobile app. This means I have to flick through the episode descriptions, which don’t match that on the provider and hope that I’ve picked the right one. If I don’t watch this show for a week or two, I’m not going to remember the episode number I last watched, that’s what I use Trakt for…
Please Trakt Team, add the Original Title to the V3 interface and the app. I can’t for some reason access V2 on my phone but I can from my PC, which makes this more awkward.
I can see you’re now making changes to the show data to ‘fix’ this, but it doesn’t feel like a fix, just more of a cop out instead of properly investigating where the data actually lies and making any changes to V3. Trouble is, you’ve now gone and removed the descriptions from those episodes that are ‘fixed’, and lost the episode title…
This is why I refuse to use V3, it should have been made in such a way that making such trivial changes as this should be a walk in the park. Yes, trivial. All you need to do is find where the Original Title data is held, and add that to the V3 display output which is already sparse. Okay, there might be some data migration if databases aren’t the same, but that too should be trivial. Software developer of ~30 years here - the emphasis on good output must always be on maintainability. But your approach to this issue has been to fix the data instead, which is a real shame.
Hi,
What happened here is that the show was using TVDB data. Since most of it matched TMDB, I’ve migrated the page, so it now uses TMDB data. If the descriptions are missing, that’s because they haven’t been added there (If the data on seasons matches, we alway prefer to migrate to TMDB, our main datasource). In general, that is a show that has “english” as the original language, so it shouldn’t even have the “original title” section, if you are seeing the data in english.
As for the issue with the original title not showing up at V3. That was more a feature request than an issue. The data is just not displayed on episodes at V3, and you can request it to be added here: Feature Requests - Trakt
