Add a TV Show to Trakt

Short description of the issue

  • As you have now completely removed access to web V2 of Trakt, I am no longer able to add shows or movies to Trakt. Please add this feature to your allegedly “improved” V3. I know the official response is that Trakt “automatically” imports new shows to Trakt automatically. Well, it hasn’t been doing a very good job of it! V3 has removed so many of the features that were in V2. With promises from Trakt of including them before you remove access to V2. From reading the other forum posts, it seems that we have all been misled. I will not be renewing my VIP membership when it expires. It seems I’m not on my own as there are so many other loyal users doing the same.

Thanks for adding it. I assume you’re not an admin for Trakt, so how did you manage to add it without web v2? I can’t find out how to add new TV shows and movies using the new V3 web or app. Thanks again.

Yeah, I’m not an admin. I actually didn’t need to add it manually. I just used the show’s IMDb ID tt15761234 to find it.

I’ve noticed the search can be unreliable sometimes, so using the IMDb ID usually works much better. Trakt should automatically add the show as long as the TMDB record has an IMDb ID listed. I’m not sure if you can view it on TMDB without being logged in, but I usually go to Show/Movie of choice > Overview > Edit > External IDs and look for the IMDb ID there.

If the show doesn’t have an IMDb ID listed on TMDB, that’s when I’d go to IMDb, grab the ID, add it to TMDB, and then wait for Trakt to sync. From what I’ve seen, support usually says to give it 24–48 hours for the auto-import.

In my experience, you’ll have better luck searching by the IMDb ID since it’s a unique identifier.

**note - You dont need an admin/moderator account to make additions on TMDB. Would say to be careful if you want to make actual contributions. Adding information easy, removing it in a lot of cases requires an admin/moderator. That then might take some time to actually get fixed, mostly depends how many people end up complaining about the errors.

That’s great. Thanks for explaining. I do have a TMDB account. I’ve been adding and editing info on there for years. So, in future I’ll use the method you described. Thanks again!
