Hey everyone ![]()
You may have noticed a new limit for Community Apps connected to Trakt.
We should have shared some context before this appeared. The timing wasn’t right, sorry about that.
Trakt has always been built to work with other apps, and we want to keep it that way. But using Trakt as the central data source across several apps creates significantly more syncing, API traffic, and infrastructure costs.
Keeping one Community App available for free lets everyone continue using Trakt with their favorite app. If Trakt connects everything in your setup, that broader usage is supported through VIP.
Here are some answers to the questions we’ve seen so far ![]()
FAQ
What is a Community App?
A Community App is a third-party app or service built using Trakt’s public API.
Official Trakt apps do not count toward the Community App limit.
You can review your connections under Settings → Apps → Connected Apps.
Why is Trakt making this change?
Connecting several apps can turn Trakt into a central data layer that continuously moves information between different services.
That is a useful and powerful way to use Trakt, but it also generates substantially more API traffic and infrastructure costs than typical free usage.
The new limits keep one Community App available to every free member while asking members with larger, multi-app workflows to help support the infrastructure behind them.
What if Trakt is the data source for my entire setup?
If Trakt connects several players, tracking apps, recommendation services, automation tools, or personal projects, VIP is the plan intended for that usage.
Will my existing apps be disconnected?
We are not intentionally disconnecting existing apps as part of this rollout.
If your free account is already above the limit, your current authorizations can continue for now. However, you won’t be able to authorize another Community App until you are within the limit.
What happens if an app logs me out?
If an app loses its authorization and needs to connect again, that is treated as a new authorization and the current limit will apply.
Frequent reconnects are usually caused by the app not refreshing its Trakt access token correctly. If this keeps happening, please contact the app’s developer so they can review their token implementation.
Why is the free limit one rather than two or three?
The free plan is intended to support a straightforward personal workflow with one Community App.
Using Trakt as the shared data source across several independent apps is a more infrastructure-intensive use case, which is supported through VIP.
We’ll continue reviewing real-world workflows and how the limit affects them.
What about developers?
Community developers remain an important part of Trakt.
We’re working with a select group of developers to improve their experience, support high-quality integrations, and help their apps grow. We’ll share more when we’re ready.
Where can I manage my connections or upgrade?
You can review and revoke Community Apps under Settings → Apps → Connected Apps.
If you need more than one Community App connection, you can upgrade to Trakt VIP.
