Cliffhangers 🤬

I’m sure I’m not alone and that everyone will join me in hating when a TV series is cancelled leaving everything up in the air!

So i was wondering if Trakt could start including a Cliffhanger Warning for series.

Perhaps when a user marks a whole series as watched or rates the final episode, a very simple Red/Yellow/Green “Does this Series end well or is it a Cliffhanger” question could be presented.
Green = Wrapped up nicely!
Yellow = Shame it’s cancelled but the ending won’t make you mad.
Red = AAAGGRRR it’s all up in the air FFS!!

The user could then be given the option to explain in the comments their choice and perhaps explain why they think the show is still worth a watch or why this ruins it completely. (The Comments could then be filtered for these specifically)

The average warning would be added next to the “Status” on the show page i.e. “Status: Ended” with a Green Tick :white_check_mark: for Wrapped up nicely or a Yellow OK :ok_hand: for “Not too bad” OR and :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: for “Wish i’d not started it, AVOID!”
or
Maybe it could be could be presented by changing the colour of the Rating Heart on the Poster/Banner , a green heart = ending good , a yellow heart = NTB and a red heart for BAD!!

You could have the icon i.e. :white_check_mark:(12) with a braketed number to show how many people have provided a vote, with a :grey_question: icon if no-one has yet or if fewer than 20 votes have been cast.

Cheers
Nick

as a concept maybe, but if you leave this to users they will abuse it because trolls.
Also for one user an ending could be ok for another didn’t answer anything. so i do not believe this will add anything useful

This means spoiling every single ending; you can’t reveal how every series will finish.

I like cliffhangers, but they only work as a narrative device if you don’t know they’re coming. Adding such information would ruin everything.

In addition to the fact that what you are asking for is a subjective opinion, for example, I would rate positively :white_check_mark: a series with a cliffhanger.

It’d be no more open to abuse than ratings are anyway and as the question would only pop up for those who have marked it watched, one way or another already, probably less open to issues than standard ratings.

I think, most people like a show to end with a resolution or at least to have major stories wrapped up, and this would be a handy tool for those choosing a new show to delve in to.

I’ve nothing against a cliffhanger ending of an episode or ongoing season, I’m specifically referring to series that are marked “Cancelled” or “Ended” to show if they finish well or on a cliffhanger …

With so many shows out there these days, it’s annoying when you invest your time in one, only to have it cut off without resolutions, time which could have been spent on something else.

Ratings are gathered freely and I would argue are even more subjective, this would just be a score like that, to advise if the show’s end was planned or cut off.

If you like shows ending with no resolutions, then this would help you find them!

I think the only way this could work would be if it’s something you could “turn on” in your settings to show if the show finishes on a cliffhanger, because even if you don’t think this qualifies as a spoiler, guaranteed there are others out there who would see it that way. I personally think how a show ends is something that is so easily google-able that it doesn’t belong on Trakt. Google “show name ending Reddit” and you’ll very quickly find out if the ending is satisfying or not. I think it’s on the person looking for how the series ends to avoid more specific spoilers if they’re worried about that.
