It will be misused - all one has to do is look at Reddit. In my opinion the upvote is enough.
Slightly off-topic but I think it’s hard to tell because Trakt doesn’t really facilitate any kind of social interaction, even though we have so-called “friends” on our profile. You can only actually interact with someone on here by responding to review comments.
As for the downvote/dislikes, having read everyone’s responses I think I would fall on the side of a Facebook style reaction system. I agree that downvoting would foster trolling and a general negativity.
This is certainly true, although many films and TV shows/episodes don’t have that many comments that this is really a widespread issue.
In my experience, adding any kind of voting system almost always leads to massive toxicity.
Totally agree to Kriven.
I agree with you
My vote, if an expanded type of voting/reacting to comments is to be rolled out, would be for something like how article comments on Ars Technica can have reactions like “Funny”, “Interesting”, etc.
Ars also has different sets of reactions depending on whether the user votes that comment up or down, but I’m not in favor of Trakt implementing downvotes for reasons already well covered earlier in this thread. Since Trakt already has the Flag feature, most of those “negative” reactions wouldn’t add anything to the system anyway.
I do not support the idea of downvoting a comment, but I like the idea of react to a comment. I do watch lots of comedies and just want to react with a “laugh” because in the comment section you are forced with at least five words or so … That is why it would be awesome!
You can currently “Like” a comment, but they don’t have multiple “reactions” like these forums do.
I like the idea of reactions to comments but definitely not a Reddit like system. A negative review of a popular movie/show would just get downvoted and hidden just comments on Reddit
Downvotes are the great equalizer. Too bad people don’t see it this way these days.
I’ve seen this abused in reddit and also on other platforms. If downvoting is implemented then members become afraid of asking genuine questions out of fear for being downvoted. Yes it weeds out the spammers but it also weeds out the nice people too. It can also potentially create a negative environment.
spammers are already outweeded by report function etc. i don’t see much spam (any spam) as a user anyway.
Good anti spam software in place.
