suddenly a flood of S0 episodes of different shows appears on yesterday’s history watched list
Detailed description with additional context about the workflow
When I wanted to add episodes I watched yesterday, I saw that my history is flooded (more than 248 episodes) with episodes of different shows that I did not mark as watched myself. All of them seem to be episodes from the Specials (Season 0) of each show. Looking into the watched details of any such episode seems to indicate that this was added multiple times the past days.
Two questions: Why is this happening? And how can I easily get rid of them because now it seems I can only delete them one by one which is a big pain.
Used to be you could hide “specials” from your Feeds and website, unfortunately it looks like you can only access that through the old V2. Maybe make a suggestion on their GitHub that they fix this.
trakt wouldn’t add shows or movies to your history randomly. do you have any third party apps that access your trakt account that could be adding those shows for you?
I use the Trakt app itself on my phone and tablet.
Besides that I do have SeriesGuide on my phone which imports from Trakt, but I never mark things watched in that one.
But I doubt that it is some other app, because I just now notice that all those episodes are moving to the lastes date. With that I mean: when I reported this yesterday, they were all listen on the 19th of May, and today I notice them all being listed under the 21st of May - so they are moving.
Also, if you look at any one episode’s history, that it is there on ‘today’ several times. See screenshot:
Hi,
Those episodes aren’t moving, they are being added to your history again.
The first thing I’ll recommend in this case is disconnecting the 3rd party app you use, just to make sure the data isn’t coming from that one.
From what I can see, this started at May 14, but your history also shows a spike on May 17, May 18, May 19 and May 21. Did you do anything different on those particular dates?
you are correct, those have added again - I did not realise the history was listing all episodes of the series, I assumed clicking on one episode, then selecting history would show the history of that episode alone.
I did as you recommended - I disabled the link to my Trakt account in all the SeriesGuide apps on both my phone and tablet - I will monitor for it occurring again.
And to answer your question: on those dates I did not do something out of the ordinary but could be that those are the dates I accessed the SeriesGuide app on my tablet - so this is now my prime suspect
I did some further digging and it turns out that indeed the SeriesGuide app is the one to blame.
It is apparently a known issue, see this Google search for an explanation:
It states: This behavior is likely caused by a recent Trakt server update that caused third-party apps, including SeriesGuide, to flood user profiles with ghost or duplicate watched statuses for special episodes (Season 0).
Uwe Trottmann, the developer of SeriesGuide, has been actively resolving server-side API changes affecting how specials and watched items are parsed. It states:
The only thing at Trakt side that could be much improved is the way to remove ‘watched’ episodes in bulk. Now this is a painstaking process of removing them one by one.
