IMDb, TMDB and movies that were removed

so this thing were y’all REMOVE our data from movies because it doesn’t have and IMDb ID is gonna be fixed? i mean this doesn’t even make sense because there’s a lot of alternative movies like the extended versions of Lord of the Rings or the Black & Chrome version of Mad Max: Fury Road that obviously doensn’t have a IMDB ID but the pages were locked years ago and technically they aren’t real releases, but i agree that these should be here despise being deleted from TMDB and non existent on IMDb
but then this new rule appears and simply y’all removed or hid all these releases and what are we supposed to do? i don’t even know how are all the movies that i marked as watched or collected that were removed, some of them i remembered and they have an IMDb IDs and i add them on TMDB, but they don’t appear automatically again, so how is this gonna work?

Did you have automated backups enabled before that became a defunct perk?

Not the easiest of methods, in fact pretty time consuming, but if you have an older data backup you should be able to find any differences and now deleted watched / collected when comparing.

I understand your frustration. Personally, however, I’d prefer a clean database with only real, distinct media and noting which special or altered version I watched in a note for that history entry.

The problem is this deletion from our history also affects regular “real” media that has an entry on TMDB but where there’s no IMDb present. It’s not just edge cases where there are unofficial versions.

but i’m talking about real media/release
for exemple, this TV special that i know that i’ve watched (and others too from the same artist) Multishow Registro: Pode Entrar (2009) — The Movie Database (TMDB)
like CajunRob said, the only problem is that the IMDb ID was not linked on TMDB, but there is one!
i’ve already add on TMBD, but the comeback to Trakt wasn’t automatic, like i’ve said on the beginning, so that make 3 problems: finding what was deleted, add IMDb ID on them and then report to admins
this is a lot of trouble for users to be doing

Ok yeah I see, finding the media and no automatic restore create some friction

In the thread above, I tried to suggest a solution because I was afraid something like this would happen sooner or later.

Fortunately, I have automatic backups from when they were still available, so I can compare my current data with a spreadsheet.

the last one i had was in 2024, i did one last month but it didn’t include the data that was hidden
the worst thing is, if they choose to revoke this rule, all the data comes back but they seen to be ignoring things here latelly so…
