šŸš€ Introducing a New VIP Beta of Trakt for Android

Let us know if this doesn’t help!

I’m confused. Are we expected to be happy about our privilege to beta test an unfinished product?

I’d get it for new features or even the full experience with bugs.

I’ve literally never seen a beta been used to test a downgrade in the product… at least not without a seperate branched app so I could switch between the 2 versions.

TLDR feedback:

Release 2 apps with one being Beta fi your going to do such drastic changes.

Having to reinstall the app just to have access to features I’m used to is ridiculous.

(that’s how browsers and other apps deal with overhaul app design, canary, etc..)

Find the app on the App Store, there’ll be a bit under app support that says you’re part of the beta, just press to leave and the app goes back to how it was after a few minutes

Trakt is fundamentally a web-based service, and I always would like the ability to grab a permalink for whatever I’m interacting with whenever one is available.

Would self-publishing an alternative build through a mechanism like a F-Droid repository be an option here?

Had preferred to see this as a canary/separate app rather than built upon the existing one. That way we can easily switch to judge on UX.

So far I like that continue to watch shows how many episodes.

Would prefer to see the search icon up top, rather at the bottom.

They said it’s not yet available in beta. Probably soon.

Between not being able to specify when I watched a particular title and not being able to easily add/remove specific titles to lists, the mobile app is basically useless to me. I left the beta program on Play and uninstalled and re-installed Trakt hoping to get the older version that had the features that I previously mentioned which were stripped out of the new version, but even after I left the beta program it still downloads the new Trakt with less features. I am just going to go to a third party app store to download a previous version, which seems crazy to have to do for an app that I pay for VIP.

Have to say, I extremely dislike this new interface. I’m going back to the none beta, and hope the final version is nothing like this.

There’s no plan to support this ourselves but I’m pretty sure old versions of the Trakt Android app will continue to be distributed through unofficial channels.

Thanks for your feedback!

Thanks for this feedback! I agree, I’m a huge check in user myself. We’ll have check in and scrobble support before the official launch!

How do i add my streaming services like netflix and disney+ on the new beta app, i can’t find the option?

Hi all,
new beta update is now live:
https://forums.trakt.tv/t/beta-trakt-for-android/86062

Support ratings for shows/movies/episodes
Support for favorites
Added missing option to mark season as watched
Home activity section split into History and Social

Thanks for the update! Any ETA on the ā€œwatching nowā€ and the scrobbling feature?

I’m gonna leave a longer comment with thorough feedback later, but I really like the new design. Took some getting used to at first, but it’s way faster and cleaner than the old one.

(Unlike the desktop version where I really think the opposite is the case)

One of the features I found very useful in the old app was to open an actor/director’s page and immediately see which shows or movies from that person I had watched before. This is no longer possible. Are there plans to bring that back?

I think the new non-modal rating UI is a downgrade. The textual description for each rating from 1 to 10 helps at least me personally avoid ratings inflation. Also, it’s a lot easier to accidentally change the rating of an entity now, which is noticeable in the ratings history page.

I don’t think the rating UI has to be modal, but I do think requiring confirmation by default, and showing the score description while unconfirmed, would be good.

Hello.

Been using the latest Android app for a few days and-sorry if I repeat previous feedback-but it really doesnt feel like a bĆŖta.

UI looks better at first glance but IMHO key features are missing

  1. Quick access to history etc…

  2. comments disappeared-luckily they are still reachable on webUI)

  3. The saga view (show all movie belonging to same saga) .

  4. The default view. Did I see it? Does it belong to any list ? It’s clearly confusing.

Last but least-I saw comments suggesting to have 2apps for now- it seems to me like the best option - we can test new app without removing it’s key features kept in ā€œlegacyā€app.

TBH-It took me a while to start using new UI and finally decided to opt out and go back to normal app.

I’ve been using the android beta for a few days and it seems fine to me me, but. Are Notifications not supported? I would like to get notifications of show releases.

Unfortunately, the new design layout has no functionality opportunity as the old version. The new design is just for a better UI but with a worse UX decisions. I’m leaving the beta program and obviously it will not be wise to make the current beta design as permanent. The only two improvements that were needed are;

Make IOS and Android apps completely identical that they don’t have certain features over each other. For example, IOS had the feature to mark all previous episodes as watch if a recent episode selected to be watched.

Search functionality is really poor designed. It is simple SQL search and flexible. It will be really great to bring IMDB like searching algorithm which is based on trending searches.
