Many shows and movies have disappeared from Trakt — what’s going on?

Hi Trakt team,

I’ve noticed a serious issue: a lot of shows and movies have suddenly disappeared from Trakt without any explanation. I found this out while scanning my Plex library — several titles are no longer recognized or matched, even though they used to work perfectly before.

Here’s a non-exhaustive list of some titles that are now missing:

  • Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic
  • The Offer (2022)
  • The Kominsky Method (2018)
  • Megalobox (2018)
  • My Mister (2018)
  • L’Affaire Bettencourt : Scandale chez la femme la plus riche du monde
  • Griselda
  • Break Point (2023)
  • Steins;Gate 0
  • Slam Dunk (1993)
  • DC League of Super-Pets (2022)
  • Pitch Perfect 3 (2017)
  • Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)

This is just what I managed to catch from a quick scan — I’m sure there are many more affected titles.

:red_exclamation_mark:So… what’s going on exactly? Is this a bug? A silent purge? A TMDb sync issue?

:money_with_wings: If this is what we get for the price doubling from $30 to $60, wow — talk about value! I didn’t realize “disappearing content” was the hot new premium feature.

More seriously, this is really breaking the Plex sync experience and the trust we place in the service.

Thanks in advance for investigating this and letting us know what’s happening.

Best,
Danavans

Disappeared from where, your watched history? collection? The Plex webhook is only a 1 way sync, it can’t remove any data from your Trakt account.

They disappeared from the Trakt website itself — I’m talking about the search function. When I try to look up some of these titles (like Griselda, for example), they simply don’t show up at all in the results.

What’s strange is that when I search in a private/incognito window (not logged in), I can find them.
But once I’m logged into my account, they completely disappear from the search results.

I’ve already tried clearing my cache and cookies, but the issue remains.
Is this some kind of account-specific bug or filtering issue?

Am I really the only one seeing this?

Do you have the same issue ?

Was able to replicate this with Steins;Gate 0. Not showing up when logged in, showing up in incognito. So probably an issue with the new search engine.

Thanks for the clarification!

That explains a lot — I had no idea a new search engine was being beta tested.
I’ll hold off on reporting anything else for now and wait for the full indexing to complete.

Cheers,
Danavans

The indexing is done for movies and shows, so it appears to be a bug. I’m planning to take a look next week.

There is an option to turn off the experimental search in your settings. That may fix your issue.

Hi again,

I ran some new tests today and it looks like the missing titles are now back on the Trakt website — great news on that front!

However, they still don’t seem to be accessible via the API, as PlexTraktSync is still unable to find or sync them.
(Just to clarify: I use PlexTraktSync only for syncing collections, because it provides more detailed data like file quality — whereas the webhook just adds the item without that level of detail. For everything else, the webhook works great!)
It was actually during a scan with PlexTraktSync that I first noticed the issue — many shows were missing and couldn’t be matched, which led me to investigate further.

Also, I noticed a strange bug:
When I click on the View history of a show I’ve already seen,

it displays a completely unrelated viewing history. The list includes entries from 2025, 2024, even 2017 — and not just from the show in question. It looks like the watch history is pulling mixed data from various shows.

I’ve attached a screenshot to show exactly what I’m seeing — hope that helps clarify the issue.

Let me know if there’s anything else I can check on my end!

Best!
