Plex Sync BETA

Not sure why, but it was unreachable from the Trakt servers and also from my development machine. Since it uses several different addresses and ports, my guess is the other folks are also connecting through one of the other connections and not the port 32400 one.

That indeed is a better sign and that means it was able to grab the user list directly from your server this time.

I see a data sync from this morning and I verified your server is reachable. You can see the 2 episode synced this morning at: https://trakt.tv/settings/plex

Yes, for some reason it did sync 2 episodes this morning, but it didn’t perform the full sync as expected.
Since then, I’ve added around 30 more episodes to my Plex Server, but none of them have been transferred to my collection.

I will need to debug this more next week. The data is pulling ok from your server, but when I just tried it the sync process was timing out so I need to see where the issue is.

I logged in this morning and saw that 5,037 movies had synced, so it seems that AdGuard and / or Malwarebytes were affecting how elements rendered on the webpage. That likely prevented the “user” menu from appearing, even though I had Trakt whitelisted.

I’ve now selected my TV server for syncing. In the meantime, if AdGuard or Malwarebytes are indeed blocking elements, is there anything specific we could whitelist to help avoid these issues?

Also, looking ahead, will we need to keep manually selecting and switching between servers, or will there eventually be an option to add multiple servers for syncing, so we won’t have to keep returning to swap them?

Thanks again Justin.

Edit, I just remembered there is an Adult folder on the TV server, It’s a seperate folder though, I hope to god this doesn’t sync over. How would i go about stopping the adult folder sync?

@Justin , I can now select my user, but nothing is syncing.

I restarted the sync from scratch again—for the fifth time—and this time it worked. All data was successfully transferred to the collection.
However, there’s still no information shown about what was skipped.

I guess I’ll throw my two cents in as well…

I haven’t had a successful sync to Trakt since June 9th. Naturally, I didn’t know anything about it. This was always a ‘set it and forget it’ type of thing for me. So WAY back when I set it…I forgot about it and check my own stats on Trakt from time to time (not very often). So, imagine my surprise when I discovered that syncing hadn’t done anything since 6/9.

Now, I don’t want to brag or anything, but I have been collecting media for over 15 years. My library is large enough to require enterprise equipment. In the past ten days I have added thousands of episodes to my server…yet Trakt doesn’t show any of it.

I also happen to be an IT guy. I’ve been in the industry for over 25 years. I’ve made it so that my servers are ALL accessible remotely. Thus, I highly doubt that the failure to sync is related to whether or not my server is seen. I haven’t changed any settings on any of my equipment. What HAS changed is Trakt. We have a saying in IT: “He who touched it last, broke it.”

Scrobbling does not work anymore, so I set up Plex Sync…which has also done nothing.

Hmmmm…

Since I also use tinyMM to manage my media and parse metadata, I wonder if I can simply use THAT to push info to Trakt (since obviously Trakt can’t be trusted any more)…

Library collection sync was added on June 17, so that wouldn’t have worked prior.

I will need to check your connections specifically. For some of the others, the issue was indeed the port being blocked.

Plex sync is a beta feature, so by definition things might not work while it’s in active development.

Nothing is displayed when you click the skipped item count?

I honestly don’t know what I’m doing wrong, but no matter which configuration I try, synchronization always results in duplicate episodes

No, nothing at all.
Also, it seems the sync still isn’t working properly. Some collection entries were added, but several new episodes were skipped, and plays weren’t added either.

Small update: I checked on my side after you mentioned there was a timeout issue.
Turns out my server’s network adapter was dropping out every 2 minutes for about 5 seconds due to overheating. I’ve resolved that now.
I ran a full collection sync again, and it worked immediately.
Now I’ll keep an eye on whether newly added content and plays are being synced properly.
But one thing’s for sure: I still can’t see the skipped items at all.

Edit: It’s now 3 hours later, plays still aren’t being synced, and new media files aren’t being added to my collection.

This appears to be a bug since the plays are being added from the Plex Scrobbler (webhook) and this new Plex Sync. It seems the scrobbler isn’t respecting your settings, unless you only recently changed them?

I am out most of this week, but I will take a look when I am back in town.

After how long the first sync occurs ? I have activated it few hours ago and still no sync.
Also the preference page does not ask me what I want to sync anymore (it did when I set it up), don’t know if its just a one time setup or if it should always show up.

That would be great, thanks!
As a small update: a few newly added episodes were recognized and added to the collection by plex sync, but many newly added episodes were completely ignored.

I have been trying to use the Sync feature for a few days and I’ve got it -kinda- working but there are some bugs I’m seeing so I’m hoping this helps with fixing content sync issues.

It took me a little bit to get the port-forwarding and manual port setting to stick without causing remote access issues for my Plex server, and once logged in I can select my server which then provides the normal sync “new” or “all” settings which is defaulted to “new”. However when I change it to “all” and click “Save Settings” the page refreshes and those options never show up again until I disconnect and re-login to find the settings are defaulted again back to “new”. It has done a couple syncs but despite trying to set it as “sync all” from the get-go it only picked up new things. Additionally, I’m not seeing the duplicate episodes like some others have reported but it does show items skipped and when I clicked on that to see what was skipped nothing happens. That’s not a big deal but the “new” vs “all” sync feature not being kept is kind of annoying. Also the system doesn’t seem to have a schedule for the syncs so it’s been like 3 days with no sync despite adding new media and I see no way to kick one off manually.

(Initial login before clicking “Save Settings”)

(After clicking “Save Settings”)

So it’s almost a day now and the sync never triggered, something must be wrong ?

I ran into the same issue as you. After selecting “All Plays and All Items”, I waited about 2 minutes, just in case there was some server-side delay in registering the selections.

I also discovered that disabling the AdGuard and Malwarebytes Browser Guard extensions allowed the “User” menu option to appear. So, you might want to try disabling all your browser extensions and then wait a couple of minutes after making your selections. That worked for me.
