This appears to be a bug since the plays are being added from the Plex Scrobbler (webhook) and this new Plex Sync. It seems the scrobbler isn’t respecting your settings, unless you only recently changed them?
I am out most of this week, but I will take a look when I am back in town.
After how long the first sync occurs ? I have activated it few hours ago and still no sync.
Also the preference page does not ask me what I want to sync anymore (it did when I set it up), don’t know if its just a one time setup or if it should always show up.
I have been trying to use the Sync feature for a few days and I’ve got it -kinda- working but there are some bugs I’m seeing so I’m hoping this helps with fixing content sync issues.
It took me a little bit to get the port-forwarding and manual port setting to stick without causing remote access issues for my Plex server, and once logged in I can select my server which then provides the normal sync “new” or “all” settings which is defaulted to “new”. However when I change it to “all” and click “Save Settings” the page refreshes and those options never show up again until I disconnect and re-login to find the settings are defaulted again back to “new”. It has done a couple syncs but despite trying to set it as “sync all” from the get-go it only picked up new things. Additionally, I’m not seeing the duplicate episodes like some others have reported but it does show items skipped and when I clicked on that to see what was skipped nothing happens. That’s not a big deal but the “new” vs “all” sync feature not being kept is kind of annoying. Also the system doesn’t seem to have a schedule for the syncs so it’s been like 3 days with no sync despite adding new media and I see no way to kick one off manually.
I ran into the same issue as you. After selecting “All Plays and All Items”, I waited about 2 minutes, just in case there was some server-side delay in registering the selections.
I also discovered that disabling the AdGuard and Malwarebytes Browser Guard extensions allowed the “User” menu option to appear. So, you might want to try disabling all your browser extensions and then wait a couple of minutes after making your selections. That worked for me.
I didn’t change any settings on anything related to my port forwarding, Trakt settings, or Plex settings, so I’m not sure what could be wrong between the scans listed and now when literally nothing is different aside from adding more media.
I can see the “User” dropdown despite having my AdBlock Chrome extension enabled, it’s the other settings for “new vs all” that don’t show up except when I initially make the Plex connection. I did try to disable AdBlock to see if that made a difference but upon refreshing the page it was the same experience.
First sync should happen within a few hours (or ideally within minutes). If it doesn’t that means there is a problem somewhere that I need to track down (unreachable server, etc).
The sync settings are only applicable when you first set up your server and configure the initial data sync. Syncs after that are only looking at data from the last sync and forward. This is why the options don’t show up anymore.
This is all done server side on Trakt, so a local ad blocker shouldn’t affect the user menu. If it’s not displaying, that typically means we’re not able to reach the Plex server to query for the user list.
Thank you for your answer. For now, no syncc has ever trigger, so something must be wrong. I tried to resetup everything multiple time but same issue. As I was using PlexTraktSync docker, I dont want to sync everything to avoid duplicates.
Well, If i have those browser extensions enabled, No menu options show up, If i disable them, then the menu options show up. The server is clearly reachable because it’s synced over 5000 movies and continues to sync watched items even after re-enabling them, Very strange.
Secondly, I have an Adult collection and I need to know How would I go about Blocking that adult folder from being Synced to Trakt?
Could there be options to select folders from syncing, Like adult and private home movies collection folders?
I know all my family would be devastated If i accidently uploaded our entire family history to Trakt, Lol.
Ah, so perhaps the name of that field is getting blocked from the browser extension since it thinks it’s ad related or something.
This is a good idea and I will look into more settings to indicate which specific Plex libraries should be synced or not. Adult or home videos won’t be indexed on Trakt, so it will effectively fail/skip since it won’t find a match.
I’ve noticed a few things so far that helped me get it working
Automatic synchronization isn’t working properly. To make it work, I leave the server field blank, save the settings, then select my server again. Only after that does it start syncing. Maybe adding a button to trigger a manual sync would solve this issue?
These are my current settings, and with them, I was able to completely fix the duplicate plays issue. It seems the problem is related to the “Watched” option — even when only the “Plex Sync” option was enabled, duplicates were still being created.
Also, I never see the user drop down when I choose my server (Chrome on my PC, no extensions, same with Edge, also Chrome on my phone…never see the users drop down):
I’ve tried using the Plex Sync but it isnt working for me. I do use my Plex via reverse proxy (https://plex.mydomain.com) but I do also have port 32400 forwarded as well so it should be reachable on that. I’m getting the same as others above…im getting Plex Scrobbler events, but no Data Syncs.
I set this up on Jun 8’, it ran as expected until the 21st, then seemed to stop getting updates. I disabled the sync and re-set it up on the 24th and it ran for another couple of days somewhat delayed (picking things up about 10–12 hours after I watched them) and then stopped on the 27th. I’ve watched a bunch of shows on my Plex since then but nothing is showing up.
The last watch it synced was Taskmaster on 6/26 at 11:09pm which was picked up at 12:29pm the following day.
