Rate limited from reacting to comments

Short description of the issue

  • I can’t react to comments anymore. I’m getting hit with a 400 Bad Request with “Your comment reaction privileges have been temporarily suspended and will automatically be restored in a few days. Please contact support if you have any questions.” as the error message.

Detailed description with additional context about the workflow

  • I usually read every comment after watching an episode and in almost all cases react to it one way or the other. Now I got hit with some type of rate limiting for reacting on comments on the website. :joy: You can’t be serious with that. I’m paying for 9 years straight for VIP and reacting to 10 comments every 30 minutes should not be rate limited in any shape or form, especially not for multiple days. It would be great if that suspension could be lifted and the limitation checked because this is pretty annoying.

I’d have to agree

Thanks for reporting this.

When you ran into this, our reaction protection system was a bit too aggressive

We’ve reworked it and now:

  • Reactions, list likes, and downvotes are tracked separately
  • you’ll have higher limits, especially for VIP users
  • Escalation ramps up instead of applying a flat suspension
  • The escalation resets after a few days

In practice, this means the system is now much more tolerant for normal usage like reacting to comments while browsing after watching episodes.

So you shouldn’t run into this again with typical activity. If you ever do, feel free to report it and we’ll take a look.

Thank you very much Kevin! Let’s hope it now works as intended. :+1:t3:
