Is there a way to change the way the release date is prioritized? For example, a movie was released in 2023 in my country (US), but then was released in another country almost a year later. So in my lists, the placement of the movie has changed to be with the movies that were released in 2024 instead of 2023 when it was really released (for me). It always picks the latest release date instead of the original release date.
Feels like the original airdate should be used, always. At least thatâs my two cents on the topic.
I think it should default to either the original or the country youâre in, if thereâs a way to distinguish that.
Which specific movie are you referring to? It should pick the earliest release date based on the original country, but I can check with a specific example.
Here are a few examples. Itâs mostly Hallmark movies for me that Iâve caught this. At least for me, they are showing up on my lists being represented by the latest release date, which is not the time they were released to me. I hope that makes sense!
Never Too Late to Celebrate
Released in 2023 in the US, but sorted first by the 2024 Canadian release date
An Ice Palace Romance
Holiday Heritage
Three Wise Men and a Baby
Maybe because premiere release dates donât count. Only theatrical or physical or tv?
Premiere is only for a premiere on a film festival for example for a semi-exclusive audience.
Or because it looks at the origin country for the release date.
Using the first movie as an example, TMDB has Canada as the main country (Never Too Late to Celebrate (2023) - Changes â The Movie Database (TMDB)) so we use the earliest Canadian release date as the default. If this is incorrect, please use the report button on Trakt and we can fix it. Or it can be fixed on TMDB then should update Trakt about 24 hours later.
It seems to be a similar issue with the others having the country set to Canada.
Yes, many of these movies are filmed in Canada, but air first here in the States. But because they were filmed in Canada it defaults to the Canadian release date, even if itâs after it first premiered in the States? Iâll see if I can figure out how to fix it on TMDB, if not, I will report it on Trakt.
Yes, we use the original country to determine the main release date. There are many cases where a movie might premiere earlier in another country, or at a film festival, but itâs not considered the main release date.
These are made for TV movies, which are a bit different though. Iâm not sure a global change to ignore the country for TV movies would always be the correct move though.
Donât change it on TMDb if itâs already correct but you want Trakt showing different dates. Because thatâd be sabotaging and will lead to repercussions if/when they find out ![]()
Oh, this is annoying! I canât even edit my list on Trakt so it shows up correctly. I have it sorted by release date and anything else I choose majorly screws it up. Itâs too big of a list to manually rearrange. The one movie I was trying to move is listed as being 326, but itâs not in that spot because of the country of origin. Itâs up by item 360 and it shouldnât be. I donât like this feature.
