Search Options

Use the Trakt search to help find what you’re looking for. Initiate a search by using the icon in the top left of any page. Search now also includes your 5 most recent search history and trending searches.

By default it will search Movies & Shows, but you can choose a more specific type too. If you know the specific ID from another site, that’s supported too.

Search results match your query terms with several fields including title, tagline, description, alternate titles, translated titles, and actors. The different search types use different fields, but those are the main ones.

Search now also highlights three most relevant results, right in the search box, along with more detailed content information as well as JustWatch options. If that’s not what you’re looking for, just click “view all results” at the bottom to be taken to the normal search results page.

Advanced filtering.

All VIP members have access to advanced search filtering. Click the advanced filter icon (looks like a slider) in the top left and the panel will slide into view. These work on desktop and mobile.

Search filters include genres, certifications, languages, countries, networks, status, release years, runtime, and rating percentage. Note that some filters only apply to certain search types.

What layouts are available?

Every user has a preference on what type of images they like. We offer lots of options to customize how the search results look. Choose your favorite in your Trakt.tv settings. All of the views look great on desktop, tablets, and mobile.

Some images have better coverage than others, but we’re working to fill in any that are missing. If you have artwork to contribute, please consider adding them to Fanart.tv and TMDB. This helps the entire community out!

VIP members can toggle the side navigation on Search results by clicking the :arrow_backward: icon to the left of the title, or h on your keyboard. This also works in the TV, Movies, Calendars, and Discover sections.

Let us know what your favorite view is.

We’re always looking for feedback on how you use the search and what layout works best on your device.
