Why is it necessary to have an imdb id and tvdb id for trakt data updates? This is really bad. There are too few people maintaining the data on imdb and tvdb. Why can’t we directly sync the data from tmdb?

The TV pages need to have either the TVDB ID or the IMDB ID to update so we can minimize the duplicates and spam pages that come to our database because of bad data added at TMDB. This decision was made made based on the many pages we had to merge or delete over the years.
Well, that’s really a pity. However, the number of people maintaining the databases of TVDB and IMDB is not as many as that of TMDB. Most third-party applications support TMDB and use TMDB as their data source. The way of editing data on TVDB and IMDB is not as user-friendly as that on TMDB either. Many people only create data on TMDB and don’t do so on TVDB or IMDB, which will affect the improvement of the Trakt database. I hope there will be a better way to update the data!
While I think this is generally OK to filter out some of the spam entries that make their way into TMDB, I’m wondering if Trakt has a process in place to deal with legitimate entries that don’t, and never will, have a corresponding TVDB/IMDB entry.
e.g.:
In both these cases, TMDB decided a continuation of a previously cancelled show should be an entirely new show, while TVDB and IMDB both decided that the continuation should be treated as additional seasons on the original show. (yes, those examples predate this change, so are protected .. but invevitably there will be future “disagreements” between the different datasources)

We do know these cases exist, and we have plans to add a way for a moderator to import a page manually in case the listing at TMDB doesn’t match the other websites because of their rules.
So can we request pages to be added on other databases too.
IMDb and tvdb are as stated by other users not user friendly and I don’t care about those databases.

This is a legit show that was added before that requirement.
I mean I get it for getting rid of dupes. But you’re really blocking non mainstream content that way.
Are you at least gonna require it for people profiles too? There’s a gazillion people dupes on tmdb too

We still don’t have a way to update pages that don’t have those IDs, I just mentioned that we have plans to do that for pages that aren’t allowed on the other batabases because of TMDB’s rules. For now, a page needs to exist on some other database for it to work. And yes, the requirement will also be added for people pages.
