The why & what

My feedback in the announcement thread got no response and still applies. I’m just gonna link to it again since it’s now in the “locked” zone: Introducing Trakt Lite - #13 by sp1ti
I saw similar comments in Introducing Trakt Lite - #19 by Akovia - also unaddressed

in what way is this ready to “launch”? and minimalist…

broken rating breakdowns, duplicate information (genre listed twice)… links to broken content (lists = Internal Error), not tested in dark & light mode.

who is this for? why is it getting different features from the main website?
from the announcement:

  • We created an experience that adjusts as you watch, list, track, and rate content
    – Huh? Is this a recommendation system? What will it affect? Should this already work on my existing profile?
  • New rating system
    – So three buttons which translate to on trakt → heart = 10, dislike = 3, like = 7. so it’s just skewing ratings with this…
    – It “interprets” existing ratings. something I rated a 6 is shown as a dislike…?! despite being closer the the “like”. another thing I rated a 7, which you assigned with a like is displayed as a heart… (but differently in the comment section)?
    – It applies show ratings to episode ratings (showing a heart on something I did not rate)!
  • introducing a thumbs up/down rating system that enables users to quickly show their appreciation for content, helping Track identify which content to promote more
    – Which is the rating system and nothing separate going by the above…?

why is it light when it is slower to load than the main page and completely drops pagination and loads everything always?

At it’s current iteration I hope it keeps being it’s separate thing but the aggressive marketing and invested resources imply otherwise. sorry if this is overtly negative but I’m disappointed in QC and seemingly fragmented direction trakt is in (lite devs, mobile devs, main site devs).
the announcement post also lies the blue from the heavens for no apparent reason…? I can compare the text vs what’s there and it’s just not true (recommendations, stream now, “diving into comments”)!

am I supposed to be able to read this?

why…

recommendations for movies I’ve seen

While I don’t think I can personally address everything you’ve questioned here (but hopefully someone else can/will eventually!), thanks for the solid review and feedback. FWIW, I have to assume that something like the recommended movies including things you’ve watched is a bug that hopefully is just in your case, or can be investigated otherwise.

I’m just gonna contextualize some of those things for the record in hopes to make my reaction more understandable.

this I already mentioned but why show me shows I’ve not started yet (only collected) or even shit I’ve put to “hidden” (aka dropped) and on episodes I’m not even @

feature:

It just shows my entire watchlist. including things not available for streaming and well over 100 items. no way to engage with this further - sorting, filter for services, etc.

feature:

yet this only seems to glorify netflix, changing the poster link to go there instead of a trailer. on something else the poster goes to the yt trailer and the “stream on” is not even expanded despite me having in this example set apple tv as (or itunes) as a “favorite” option that should show up.

feature:

as written above, it recommends me stuff I’ve already seen, and nothing about the section makes content discovery faster as you don’t even offer me simple things like genre filters (dropped VIP feature), quick access to trailers or anything else making this more seamless.

And why… oh why… would you start loading ALL my lists when I just go to visit my profile? (this is zoomed out)

image
It’s still as bloated as ever before. no combined plays (which we had in trakt v1), no breakdown whats popular among my friends or content besides “seen”

The whole thing is also quirky for no reason at all. I saw things similar to that when I was checking it out the first time… same vibe on github etc.

Hover over something that is not available to watch from my watchlist - like seriously?

I also saw that yellow face on my dashboard (did not have to hover over anything for that).

That alone was reason enough to immediately return to the normal site.

Please remove these images.

This is yet another accessibility nightmare. I hope this isn’t a precursor of things to come.

Are you designing this website on 13" laptops?
Why is everything so small in Lite mode?

I still believe this is a much better service than Letterboxd but Letterboxd has you beat in so many other ways — especially the social and marketing end of things.

links to broken content

This was a bug, should be fixed by now.

not tested in dark & light mode

Light mode is to be overhauled.

6 is shown as a dislike…?! despite being closer the the “like”

Agreed, we’ll revisit this. Not sure what you saw in the comments though, those ratings are mapped the same way.

showing a heart on something I did not rate

Do you have an example of this? Sounds like a bug.

am I supposed to be able to read this?

Yes. So I’d say it’s a bug. Will look into that.

recommendations for movies I’ve seen

Are those also marked as watched or only rated? For recommendations we ignore anything watched, watchlisted, or collected.

changing the poster link to go there instead of a trailer

The poster only links to the trailer if there no match for a streaming service (not including on-demand).

despite me having in this example set apple tv

For streaming, your preferences are leading for anything watchable with a streaming subscription. Purchasing/renting options are only ever shown in the stream on section.

And everyone please feel free to also create issues and discussions on GitHub:

It would make it easier for us to keep track on things on a case-by-case basis instead of having a lot of items in forum topics.

might be my bad after clicking around a bunch. maybe I mistook an inactive heart as active due to being the only thing “visible” with the contrast lol

they’re watched and mostly rated…

so why decide for me which one it should be? and why make the UX needlessly complicated with differing functions between items? (doesn’t help that in light mode the top text is also barely readable)

eg. Dead Poets Society (1989) - Trakt links to disney+, which I don’t have / or favorited, but there are other streaming options available still

it’s handled way better on the main site imho

Maybe add this on top of the forum section
