Upon opening the dashboard today, I believe to notice further improvements have been made on the fonts (including a fix on a spacing error I pointed out earlier). And I am thankful for them!

Just wanted to say to @justin and team that I truly appreciate all the improvements on the fonts, based on the feedback that has been given to you. It was my personal biggest concern and frustration, cause upon opening the dashboard (which has been bookmarked as my browser’s home page for years), the new font originally felt way too harsh on the eyes and nearly gave me an headache. This now no longer is the case!

I may still not like or approve of all redesign choices (I definitely would’ve gone with the round version of the new logo as main one personally :man_shrugging:), but as long as it doesn’t give me a literal headache, I can live with it and enjoy Trakt for many more years to come!

In my opinion the transformation in animation steps is a kind of funny approach to try and sell this change. It might even make sense to prominently pick a check-mark as logo if someone just started a project to scrobble movies and tv-shows, but not if you’re a mature settled brand and want to stand out from dozens of generic task list apps.

Of course some design and colour preferences come down to taste and can be endlessly debated, however…I think Trakt severely underestimated how much of a strong brand they already were, and how strong people cling to icons and a certain colour when navigating apps/browser tabs. This logo just looks like a Instagram knock-off and is easily confused with this or others.

I find myself actively trying to find Trakt, while I used to instantly recognise and pick this big red T-for Trakt on my Android phone or browser tabs. Using a custom launcher on my Android phone I can just replace the new logo with the old one and use the previously mentioned userscript to replace the favicon for my browser, but I wish the less technically savvy people had an easier choice to reverse this ill decision.

Just here to say, I have no background in design, but I’ve noticed right away and disliked instantly the new favicon using Chrome on Windows 11, the icon stand out badly compared to others brands.

It’s not working, it is not distinctive, it doesn’t represent anything meaningful, it looks like a draft, not something serious.

Look at what Microsoft did with the Copilot favicon, or YouTube, don’t use the entire space, it’s not lean and slick.

I mean, it is bad to the point of debating removing the Trakt bookmark from my bookmarks bar, I don’t need to say more I believe.

With the logo, it’s nice but could we have an option to have the new one with a black border like the old red one? Just so it fits in with the rest of iOS dark mode icons?

“What kind of corporate-greed-anti-consumer thinking is that?”

The sustainable and successful kind? Trakt is a business not an NGO

As a ‘dev’ surely you understand this is mostly one mans work? Work that you have found value in for at least the last 8 years? Work that also has expenses and needs to be somehow monitized?

@justin, another feature suggestion is that as well as VIP-only ‘classic’ theme, make private profiles VIP-only feature too

and a lifetime VIP for $500 for us subscription cancellers/haters

Please apply the VIP theme setting (old red accents) to the iOS app as well.

There’s already option in app to restore the old icon which is nice as the new one really stands out in a bad way.

Finally updated the Android app. I like the color purple but on text is just awful. Unreadable!
Don’t be proud and stubborn and just revert it, ffs.

Yeah, I knew it! It is a blackmail operation. Now the good looking interface is held hostage for a VIP subscription. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:
VIP should get new, additional features, not regular features that were removed.
If the new design is that much better like the announcement tries to gaslight us into believing than that should be the VIP feature, not the other way around.
Definitely never gonna get a VIP subscription now.

Perfect job. Thanks!

Great! you figure it out! Justin you didn’t did a good job covering it!

What’s this new logo?! A to-do app? Why does every company nowadays think that they must change their logo/brand every second year?! Look at the most well-known brands. Their identities are fundamentally unchanged and untouched. If they touch it, they tweak it only gently. The Trakt.tv logo was always red with a “T.” Now, we have an unrecognisable purple tick. :rage: :imp:

Oh yeah that would be fire.

Putting the readable color scheme behind VIP is pure profit optimization.
Like another user mentioned it does give the sense Trakt is moving to IPO or looking for investors to show good numbers especially with the unannounced “exciting” changes.

The team behind Trakt has always been transparent in my eyes with good ideas and sticking thru tough times (server capacity / increase cost / redesigns etc…).
Understand that running this site isn’t cheap but everyone is getting sick and tired of all this subscription nonsense (OG here so one time payment).
Donation drive or Patreon is probably better suited for long term self sustainability.

Plex is running into the same issues with their lifetime subscriptions and no longer feasible long term for their running costs.
Instead of opening up to their community they are adding useless streaming services with redesign after redesign promoting features nobody uses.
People are willing to help so long you remain transparent and willing to listen.

I don’t like the rebranding and pink color :S

A few small tweaks will go out this week for things like pagination links, activity tabs, sidebar links, etc. We’ll continue making small tweaks to the theme as we discover new bugs.

The new theme is purple, does it appear pink on your monitor?

Having a red VIP theme is not going to generate any additional profit. The default Trakt theme was changed to purple. The red theme was added so existing power users (i.e. VIP) can keep the red theme if they wanted to.

Trakt has always been subscription based, either yearly or monthly. Trakt OG locked in our original pricing, but it is still a yearly recurring membership. We appreciate all the OG members who’ve been such long time supporters of Trakt!

No plans to offer the original logo on the website.

The favicon might be cached in your browser. Please try a private browser or re-adding the feed and see if that helps at all. It’s possible I missed a reference somewhere if that still doesn’t fix it.

No no, purple sorry, my bad!

The new icon is a big downgrade, but that was mentioned often enough.

I like the purple visually, but my eyes are programmed to ignore writer/director/etc links in purple because it screams ‘visited link’. Doesn’t work, won’t work.

Now that RELEASED, RUNTIME and such are not bold anymore, they are much harder to read.

so basically the thread can be closed.
The site listen to the users (if after all the negativity not only for the change but accusing people of profit and blackmailing) and gave the option of switch. And of course it is going to be a VIP option. It is shocking that people are wondering about that.

Thank you Justin and all the people from the site.

Out for me
