Currently, there are different channels for release notes. https://releasenotes.trakt.tv/, Trakt > Release Notes with some posts about specific versions and some posts collecting all versions for a specific device (as well as Trakt > Beta Release Notes), and Trakt > Product Updates. I assume Trakt > Product Updates serves more as a general-purpose platform to communicate improvements and new features, but I think many people would like to have proper website updates back as soon as Trakt Lite officially replaces the current experience.
Ideally, we would have a forum post about each update to discuss it. That does not seem to be the direction you’re moving in (see Trakt for iOS 🍎 - #3 by Ohifriend), but then there should at least be one post for each device, adding posts for Android TV, tvOS and the website. Additionally, some sort of integration into the website, making the changelog/release notes accessible from over there too, would be useful as well to enhance discovery for non-forum users.
I’m sure you have this on your list already, I was just wondering if you could share any piece of information about your plans on this? Thanks!
I’ve archived a bunch of the old release notes from the categories you linked to. As of recently, going forward we’re keeping these release notes in the read-only forum category to keep the release order. Any bugs or feedback can be created as new posts and should link to the release post if necessary.
Thanks for taking the time to write this up. You’re absolutely right that things feel a bit fragmented at the moment. We’re fully aware that having multiple places for release notes, updates, betas and product posts can be confusing, and this is an area I’m actively looking at improving.
Our goal is to have:
• a better way to gather feedback,
• clearer and device-specific changelogs,
• and a better public roadmap.
I don’t have a timeline to share yet, but the direction is exactly what you described: fewer scattered posts, a clearer structure and a more transparent way to track what’s shipping across Web, iOS, Android, tvOS and Android TV.
Thanks again for your feedback! It’s super helpful and very aligned with what we’re building toward.
Honestly the most expedient way to handle this would be when there’s a new release note / announcement to have a link at the bottom of the announcement / notes leading to a “discuss” thread that’s simultaneously opened. When a new release is made, the discussion thread could be closed with the simple annotation of “newer version available” linking to the latest release notes. These threads could easily be archived too so as to avoid confusion and make it far easier tbh to find all issues relating to a particular version in one place rather than scattered issues everywhere.
