V3 not using correct air date in calendar

I am currently watching Death Valley on BBC, S2E3 airs tonight

https://trakt.tv/shows/death-valley-2025/seasons/2/episodes/3

The Web version (V2) shows this correctly in my calendar as an upcoming episode for today

In the new V3 this item is missing for my calendar because it thinks the air date was 2 weeks ago

I assume this is because it is using the available on streaming date and not the air date, if this is the case, how can we get the episode to correctly show as airing tonight in the v3 calendar, link above show the episode with today date for airing

This seems to be a common problem for BBC shows not using the correct airing date

This highlights an issue that there simply will be no way to please everyone.

As frustrating as it is for you to not have something show up in your Calendar, it is equally frustrating for those watching BBC shows on iPlayer where seasons tend to release all episodes at once.

You aren’t getting notified of the airing, the ones relying on iPlayer dates often can’t mark something as watched or added to their Library.

And there’s no rhyme or reason which dates get used. Mostly because of TMDB being relied upon and the fact usually anyone can edit dates there unless locked by a Mod.

Until there’s a method of allowing users to select their preferred choice of “airing” and “released” I can’t see how this can be resolved to everyone’s satisfaction.

This seems very backward logic to me

In V2

Masterchef is showing me the air dates in the calendar (Wed, Thur, Fri)

If I chose to watch the earlier release I can, I just mark it watched at the time I watched it

In V3

Marking watched before air date was blocked

Instead of fixing this so it works like V2, the air dates have been scrapped and replaced with the early streaming release date

This change is fixing a problem that did not exist

Hi,
At V3, we prioritize the earliest airing for users to be able to mark the items, since we used to get a lot of reports at V2 that “the dates were wrong” because of those early airings.
We don’t want to let users mark items that haven’t released as watched because a lot of people mark items they haven’t watched when they can do that.

Just makes the calendar a bit pointless now, I use it to see if I have any new episodes available on an evening to watch, if they are going to all be put in one big pile at 6am on a monday it is not helpful

I am guessing this is also going to change the way the mark as watched at release time works?, currently on v2 this uses the air date/time, will v3 start marked my episodes as watched at 6am on a Monday when the episodes are released early?

Well, other people might want to check if new episodes are available on iPlayer…

You mention Trakt allows for earlier date in V3. Is that data Trakt-hosted or 3rd party.

If Trakt relies on 3rd party services for the information it presents an issue when it’s streaming early but those services are going by network dates.

and that worked perfectly on v2

other people could watch via iplayer and mark things as watched after they had seen them

it’s the restrictions put on v3 that have caused an issue so they have removed air date

It didn’t work perfectly fine for those watching from iPlayer.

The only “perfect” solution would be allowing to change this as a setting.

Yea can you not do that.

It is not for Trakt to decide when and when I cannot mark an episode as “Watched”.

If an episode airs early or it a different time, it should be up to me, THE USER, to mark it as watched.

Current example, all WWE episodes are airing early for the next month+ due to being in Europe.

The iOS app refuses to let me mark as watched as it thinks it knows better, even thought it has aired.. LIVE.

As always, V2 works perfectly fine.

Please stop with these unnecessary changes. There is no need to babysit users, if you think there is then please add a “I’m an adult, I can make my own choices” option.

the ios app is the only one that actually lets you check in or mark as watched early. i do that all the time for the anime that airs earlier on streaming

I’ve created a ticket on the feedback platform regarding that topic:

Thanks

I have upvoted the request

I just seem to remember a lot of complaints initially that v3 did not include the air date, then it was added and now it’s been changed for this early release date

Sometimes I like to check of details of past shows, info i like to see is when it aired, this is potentially not possible now if early release date is used
