I’ve been using Trakt for years, mostly through other apps, and the thing that kept bugging me was that I’d sit down on the Apple TV and still have no idea what to actually put on. My history was all there, I just couldn’t act on it from the couch.
So I built WatchQueue. It’s a Trakt client for Apple TV, and as of this week iPhone and iPad too.
The basic idea: your Trakt data drives everything. It pulls your history and watchlist, your custom lists show up as their own rows you can browse, and marking episodes or seasons writes straight back. Open a show and the next unwatched episode is already sitting there. There’s a “fewest episodes left” sort for when you want to close something out, which is honestly the feature I use most.
It also shows where each thing is streaming, and if you’ve got a Plex server it’ll flag stuff that’s already in your library and open it in Plex or Infuse.
Being straight about the money: browsing and the watchlist are free, but the Trakt sync itself is behind a one-time $19.99 or $6.99/year. That’s the part that does the actual work, so it felt wrong to bury it at the bottom of the post.
A lot of what’s in 2.0 came from people telling me what was broken, so if you try it and something’s off especially anything around scrobbling or how it handles your lists. I’d rather hear it than not.
