Why is trakt.tv/search hidden?

Hi,

by chance in a forum post I saw that there is Search results for - Trakt which is exactly was I was looking for, where you can search and filter through everything (not only the most popular etc. stuff).

I never found that search section on the website or in the app, is this by purpose hidden (to save server load etc.)?

Greetings

In the website you get there with an empty search.

The search is at the top left on the website, in the app it’s on the top right. If you don’t see it on the website, just check you don’t have an add-on blocking it.

That’s not the question though.

Have you found a way to filter through the whole database? Without inputting a search string.

Yes I’ve just tried. I clicked search and clicked enter and it showed a list of movies. Remember to make sure “shows” or “movies” are selected on the right side of the search box.

Doesnt work like on the website. You cant search for content without inputting anything and that way filtering the whole database.

Like all content available on Netflix.

Unless it works differently in the android app.

And you mentioned the search on the app specifically too. My answer was already about the website with an empty string.

I didn’t mention the app because, as far as I know, that function is unavailable in app.

On the website I clicked on the search box and made sure “movies/series” was selected
trakt search button
I pressed enter and all the movies and series showed up. If you want something specific, you need to search for it.

In the android app when you click on search you need to input something.

If this doesn’t answer your question, what specifically are you trying to do. If I know what you doing I can better help?

I don’t have a question. The OP had a question. They wanted a page to filter the whole database on the website and app.

That’s possible on the web per my answer. But not on the app too like you claimed.
OP is not looking for the search box. At least thats not what they were asking.

Anyway let’s just leave this back and forth since OP already has their answer. Possible via web with an empty search and not possible in-app.

Oh I misread who posted the response, I thought OP was posting again. Oops.

If I don’t know what to watch or I want to explore new movies/tv shows, then I want to just filter through everything without entering a search word. For example: show me every movie available on my favorite streaming services, which has genre documentary and is no longer than 90 min. I don’t want to enter a search term in this case.

I didn’t know that you get this when you enter an empty search, so thanks for that. But on the mobile app unfortunately it doesn’t seem to work as stated by @lifeiscrazy. Does anybody know if there is a specific reason why this is the case?

Maybe @Ohifriend can shed some light on the matter. Was it just never thought of, or intended that you can’t just filter without searching?

Yeah the ability to search with an empty string wasn’t always available (at least not when mobile was being designed etc) so it’s not really set up to support it. Hopefully in the future we can adjust search in the mobile apps to support this. For now the best way would be to use and filter popular items (either movie or shows) which should include most things
