Cancelling a monthly subscription - Loss of VIP access immediately or end of billing cycle? Image seemd to say immediately

I decided to subscribe to VIP for a month, I wanted to export some lists.

As soon as I subscribed, I went to cancel; I’m allergic to automatic subscriptions. Usually, with just about every subscription service around today, you get to keep you Pro/VIP status until the end of the billing cycle. And then you don’t get rebilled.

But this is the message Trakt gave me when I went to cancel: Imgur: The magic of the Internet

I subscribed on Feb 21 in the evening, around 7pm, I’d say.

Reading the text it seems to say that if I cancelled then/at that moment, I would lose all VIP time starting the next day, so basically between ‘now’ and the next billing period. With no refund for unused time, that means I would have paid 6$ for a day of VIP.

If true, basically I have to just pay attention and when it gets close to the rebill date cancel then.

Again, that’s an old philosophy that I thought went the way of the Dodo bird (went extinct).

So, do I have that right, or am I misunderstanding something?

Wait that’s crazy if you lose it immediately. You paid $6 month, it says $6 for a month, so you should get a month if you paid $6 regardless of when you cancel.

I would sent a message to support@trakt.tv if I were you.

Sounds like a bug and support can look into it on Monday. Please include your email payment receipt.

Hey Lifeis- Yep, done. We’ll see what happens. From the responses so far it looks like a mistake, or poorly worded pre-cancel message. We’ll see.

Hi Justin,

Thanks, I messaged support. I followed up with a payment receipt.

Ticket #018504 just fyi.

Thanks for the response.

So just a posterity follow up.

I cancelled with no issues. I see the message that my vip is good until March 22, as expected. And when I went to cancel, the little popup showed the correct date, March 22.

If anything, I think possibly that I tried to cancel too soon after purchasing. Eg- Like immediately after. Perhaps the site hadn’t even been able to calculate when the (proper) cancellation date would have been, because the purchase itself was too new.

I didn’t think of that, but yes could be the reason. In general we’re notified quickly about payments, but it’s not always instant.

This thread got me thinking, can you pay for a month, create as many lists as you want, and then cancel with all those lists available to do as you please under the 100 items limit?
