I can’t drop New Doctor Who (I can select and confirm dropping it but afterwards it’s not shown as dropped) and suspect it’s because I have only watched the initial specials and nothing from the "actual” seasons. Could this be fixed please?

i have the same issue with a couple anime series, i’ve only watched specials so dropping doesnt work. If you go to v2 trakt you should still be able to hide the show, thats how i was able to get rid of it on mine

I’m still on v2 and already had hidden it “the old way” but tried to switch all of my hidden shows over to the “new way” of dropping them as prompted in the overview for hidden items. So yes, no immediate rush for my case specifically as long as v2 is still accessible (long may it be), but since presumably hidden items will eventually have to become dropped items, this should be fixed in the not too distant future.
