Lots of people are threatening to cancel their subscription. If the company is not profitable anymore, it could go bankrupt. What would happen to the users’ watched history?
Well that’s obvious unless this was a rhetorical question to trakt employees and management.
What happens to anything when a company shuts down? It stops working.
I’m sure it would be announced ahead of time if it ever happens so users can export out their watched history.
The only thing to add to this is that sometimes there isn’t much notice. I pull regular backups from time to time for safekeeping.
I think if we start seeing advertising pop up on the site we’ll know the end is near.
Users will go elsewhere. Some will take their data, many won’t care.
I genuinely couldn’t care less, all I really need is a watched status between my Kodi endpoints (already using a shared database) and a mobile app/interface so I can see the same when I’m out.
There were some other things I used a bit, but at the core, that’s it. For me, any other data is worthless and I’ll delete it myself when my current VIP subscription ends.
Others will have different needs. Export what you need before those features suddenly get flaky or unreliable.
Assume total loss. Prepare accordingly. It’s pretty easy to take a back up or have them email you each week.
I’ve assumed there that backups are not VIP but if so, I would consider signing up for a month just to grab a copy personally.
As far as I know, you can manually backup your data on https://trakt.tv/settings/data
. Only the automatic backup feature is VIP addon.
I think there is through iOS app, unless that has been taken away.
Good effing riddance.
Personally, I haven’t just cancelled my subscription but also began moving my data off of trakt. I’d rather be looking for a slightly less attractive alternative service than to accept such hostile practices.
It’s been available for months - 6+ at least.
There are a lot of people complaining and it’s a top trending topic on the forums, but what percentage of the user base is really complaining?
I’m on the fence about the $60 because I can afford it. But if the community goes away and I start seeing a lot less voting in the coming months before I renew I will probably leave as well.
There are lots of simple tracking sites, but Trakt’s super power has always been the amount of data and filtering. They may need to lean into other rating sites more and de emphasize their own use ratings.
Are we saying that my next VIP renewal (December) will cost 60 USD? Really? I have not received any email regarding this new price.
