First off, thank you for the Android TV app! I have cobbled together crappy versions of a streaming aggregator for Android/Google TV boxes for years and even in v1 this is by far the best implementation I’ve seen. Couple that will all the other Trakt features and this is just gold.
My question is around how the deep Links to “watch” Media work in the App. They seems to break frequently and randomly. That same behavior happened using both JustWatch and ReelGood all the time and I always assumed it was related to Google and/or the individual apps changing the way the links needed to be formatted, but I wanted to ask here. I would love to understand how it is supposed to work and if there is something I could do to fix it when it does happen.
A couple of examples. For Netflix and Apple TV, it just works. For Peacock, when I click watch I don’t see any options at all. For Paramount+, it gives me an error along the lines of “you don’t have an app for this”.
Any info very much appreciated, but like I said, I’ve been dealing with this in every other app I have used for a long time, so I understand if it isn’t really fixable for external reasons.
Generally speaking, probably of all the apps you are using are utilizing JustWatch deep links for watching content. It actually depends if the developers of streaming services app’s are properly hadling their own links in their own TV and Mobile apps.
That’s why you are probably seeing some of them working perfectly and some failing.
This can mean that you either don’t have a Paramount App installed on your TV or that their app is not handling a link properly.
If you want feel free to give me some pin-pointed examples of episodes/movies that fail to open and which streaming service it is (also what is your country). I can verify to be 100% sure.
Currently, Peacock and Paramount+ are not working. Specifically, I just tested with The Paper S01E03 and Ghosts UK S05E01 respectively and get the “You don’t have an app that can do this“ error, but it was the same for any shows I spot checked against those services. I have both of these apps installed and updated, tested they are working, that these episodes exist, rebooted my Google TV box, everything I could think of.
All over the place I am getting big gnarly “Bad Gateway” and “Request Timeout” popups on the “Where to Watch” button, but I am chalking that up to problems with the API right now and will test again later.
I am also seeing, again as a pop-up on the “Where to Watch” button, an error that reads “io.ktor.client.plugins.cache.InvalieCachedStateException: The entry for url: (insert url here) was removed from cache”. I have seen that a couple of times, specifically Andor S02E02 this time, but in other cases, I might see it, then back out of the episode page, then go back in, and the “Where to Watch” button eventually refreshes, like in Ghosts UK S05E01. Not sure if that is API related too, but wanted to mention it.
Is anyone else out there having this problem where Trakt says "You don’t have an app that can do this“ for Peacock and Paramount+ in the Android/Google TV app? Curious if I am the only one and it is some sort of issue on my device.
Thanks. I definitely have the apps installed and even tried removing, rebooting, kind of just starting fresh to see if it reset the deep link or something, no luck.
It happens without fail on every show or movie that I try to launch in either Peacock or Paramount+. I provided a few specific examples earlier in this thread. Do you need more?
