My wife just started using trakt and basically just marks episodes as watched. I would like to give her the VIP treatment, so, is there a family option?

Nope, there’s no such thing.
I guess your two options are to either both use a single account (yours, since it’s VIP already) or pay another VIP membership for your wife.
