Recently hidden shows (hidden for years in many cases) got listed in the calendar upcoming schedule section again. Trying to hide them from calendar does not work, once refreshed those shows are visible again. Also notifications are sent.
Is this related to Goodbye Hide, Hello Drop (a feature which I don’t see at all anywhere) or a bug?
So something is really broken - except on the website and in one app. But as even the official products (Trakt app + web/lite app) are affected it seems like YOU dear Trakt team have to fix something in the backend.
@Kristin Have you seen this information meanwhile? Is it of help to you?
This is something we’re looking at due to another side effect. The current workaround, if it works for you, is to drop the show via the show page. This will hide from up next also (as well as calendar), however.
Login to Trakt on the web. Go to your settings then press on hidden items. From there use the drop-down menu on the left that says Dropped and change it to Calendar. There you will see a banner to drop all previous hidden shows in one click.
This solved it for me for the calendar part but my Up Next is messed up now
So I would rather have a backend fix instead of working around one symptom which creates a new one. Or did I misunderstood the drop feature here?
Basically I even don’t want to drop hundreds of shows manually because you messed up with a new (really necessary?) feature. Never change a running system. And if you do cause you think the change is really necessary, make sure it does not introduce issues. And in case it does, fix them. Without the need for users to mess around with their data.
Or is that too much expectation?
There also is not a single app supporting the drop feature, which seems to exist for months. Not even your own official app is working. Only TVST app somehow managed to suppress/hide/apply whatever magic those hidden shows.
Edit 1:
The „hide show“ buttons in other apps don‘t work anymore. Did you maybe change the API without notifying API users (like app developers)?
Edit 2:
I don’t even see the „drop“ feature. Not on the show‘s page. Should be in up next and progress according to the drop feature announcement. Seems like that‘s one part of the inconsistency between what we see on the website and everywhere else. HOW - TO - FIX - THIS ? So much wasted time already…
In your previous comment I believe you were referring to the user who mentioned that their Up Next was messed up? Correct me if I’m wrong. If that is the case, that was an issue but has since been resolved and dropping items won’t mess up your Up Next now.
Anything that you’ve hidden can be easily migrated to drop. You don’t need to manually drop every single item. In your account settings under hidden items, you can filter by different options (see screenshot below). Going through these will allow you to drop all of those items so you don’t need to do it manually.
Thanks, I will have a look at it once I can access the website again easily (difficult while on the go).
So in case this works for all shows from the past which popped up two weeks ago: how to drop shows in the future? Even in the official app it‘s not intuitive looking at which sections it is available. My primarily used mobile apps have a hide feature - which does nothing (anymore). Do they need to implement the drop feature? Is it a new API endpoint? Why not replacing hide with drop from an API perspective? So much unnecessary confusion and trouble…
In the apps currently you can go to the show’s page, then tap the “plus” which brings up the drop option. I believe @Ohifriend is working on including drop from calendar in a future update as well, so it should be similar to how it was for hide.
As all my affected shows were in the calendar = Upcoming Schedule section, I had to go the long way. Select the upcoming episode. Switch to show. Tap plus button. Tap Rewatch/Drop. Drop. 5 steps and visually very well hidden as I said.
What about my API / backend question: do other app developers need to explicitly implement the drop feature in their applications? Obviously you are not migrating the hide feature so the drop feature is not a drop-in replacement - or prove me wrong.
Can I check that this is now the intended behaviour as it doesn’t seem right?
For example I’m watching SVU Season 2 at present. I don’t want to drop the show because I’m watching it, but equally don’t want/need to be told that Season 27 episodes are currently airing at 4am in a country I don’t live in.
I also use the widget so when this occurs with more than 3 shows, it is hiding the information I do actually want.
This is happening to me on the Android app. I watched the Peacemaker pilot, didn’t like it, so hid the show. New episodes still show up on the calendar, not the main “Continue watching” section.
Like I said, @Ohifriend should have an update out soon to drop from the calendar/home/upcoming schedule, similar to how it is for hide, and the hide option will be removed. As for 3rd party apps, they can choose to do what they want. For example, I know Rippple supports both hide and drop. As of now, there isn’t a plan to remove the hide feature from the API.
For now, that is the intended behavior. There aren’t any current plans to support hide from just the calendar, though I have passed this feedback along to the team.
The hide feature is no longer supported on the apps or on Trakt Lite. You’ll need to drop the items to have them not appear in your calendar on the app. Check out this thread for more info on how to do so, but let me know if you have any additional questions.
