How to import your TV Time data into Trakt?

TV Time is shutting down after July 15, 2026. If you want to keep your TV Time watch history, download your TV Time data export before the service becomes unavailable.

Trakt has a TV Time importer that now supports uploading the TV Time GDPR export .zip directly.

Before you start

You’ll need:

  • Access to your TV Time account
  • A TV Time GDPR data export .zip
  • A Trakt account

You do not need to unzip the export file.

Step 1: Download your TV Time data

Go to TV Time’s GDPR self-service export page:

gdpr.tvtime.com/gdpr/self-service

Sign in with your TV Time account and request your data export.

Depending on how much you tracked, the export may take several minutes to prepare.

If you forgot your TV Time password, use the password reset option on TV Time before requesting the export.

Step 2: Save the .zip file

When your export is ready, download the .zip file to your device.

Keep the file as-is. Do not unzip, rename, or manually edit the files unless Trakt support asks you to.

Step 3: Open Trakt and sign in

Go to:

Trakt > Settings > Data

Sign in to the Trakt account where you want your TV Time data imported.

If you’re new to Trakt, create an account first, then continue with the importer.

Step 4: Upload your TV Time export

Drop or upload the GDPR .zip file you downloaded from TV Time.

The importer will read the export and prepare your data for import into Trakt.

Step 5: Start the import

Follow the on-screen steps to start the import.

Larger TV Time libraries may take longer to process. Let the import finish before trying again.

The importer will show you what couldn’t be 100% matched confidently so you can take your pick or skip them.

Once done, you’ll see a confirmation screen like this one:

Step 6 (optional): Review your Trakt data

Once the import is complete, review your Trakt account.

Check a few shows and movies you know well to confirm your history, watchlist, and ratings look right.

If something looks missing or incorrect, contact us or reply in the related Trakt forum thread with examples.

What can be imported?

The importer is designed to move supported TV Time tracking data into Trakt.

The exact data depends on what TV Time includes in your GDPR export and how that data maps to Trakt.

Supported data includes your watch history, watchlist, and ratings where available.

What does not import?

Some TV Time data can’t be mapped cleanly to Trakt, especially community or app-specific data.

Examples include:

  • Comments
  • Reactions
  • Social activity
  • App-specific metadata
  • Items that cannot be confidently matched

We’ll continue improving the importer as we learn from more exports.

Troubleshooting

My export is not ready

TV Time says exports may take several minutes to prepare, depending on how much you tracked. If it does not work, contact TV Time support before July 15.

I forgot my TV Time password

Use TV Time’s password reset option, then request your GDPR export again.

The importer says my file is invalid

Make sure you uploaded the original GDPR .zip file downloaded from TV Time.

Do not upload individual files from inside the zip.

My import is taking a long time

Large libraries can take longer to process. Let the import finish before refreshing or trying again.

Some shows or movies are missing

A few items may not match perfectly. Please share examples with us so we can improve matching.

Useful examples include:

  • The TV Time title
  • The Trakt title you expected
  • Whether it was a show, season, episode, or movie
  • Whether the item was missing or matched incorrectly

I imported into the wrong Trakt account

Contact support with details. Do not run multiple imports repeatedly without checking first, since that may create duplicate or confusing history.

Frequently asked questions

Is Trakt free?

Yes. Core tracking on Trakt is free. VIP adds extra features, higher limits, and more advanced tools.

Can I import into an existing Trakt account?

Yes. Sign in to the Trakt account where you want the data imported before starting the importer.

Do I need to unzip my TV Time export?

No. Upload the .zip file directly.

Can I import after July 15?

If you already downloaded your TV Time export before the shutdown, you can still upload that file into Trakt’s importer. The important part is getting your data export from TV Time before it becomes unavailable.

Can I import the same file more than once?

Avoid importing the same file multiple times unless support asks you to. If something failed, contact us or reply in the forum thread with details first.

Will Trakt look exactly like TV Time?

No. Trakt has its own approach to tracking, discovery, stats, lists, apps, and API integrations. But if your main concern is keeping your watch history and continuing to track shows and movies, the importer should help you get started.
