Idea about adding info on age restriction

Is there a possibility to add a section for people to elaborate on a movie or series age restriction? Similar to what IMDB does where parents have watched a movie and describe what is seen so others who want to watch the movie know what to expect. This can help parents decide whether a movie is suitable for their kids to watch.

An example could be a member adds to the current age restriction explaining that someone’s head gets blown off and it’s graphic. That would go under the heading of violence. Then someone who doesn’t want to watch that kind of movie can skip it or decide to watch it.

Any thoughts?

I think there are better sites for such information but it was previously discussed in this thread that was closed. I assume that means it’s a nogo.

A Parental guide like the one IMDB has

“ This topic was automatically closed 120 days after the last reply. New replies are no longer allowed.”

I think that auto close setting has since been removed for the feature requests section though.

Thanks @wolfkin I did see that but the topic is closed and I couldn’t response. It’s also an old topic so I thought there may be a better response now. Maybe no-one’s interested which is completely fine, that’s what this section is for, to see who would be on board with the idea.

I would also like this feature. Any idea of a good data source or API that provides this info?

I know TMDb has content discriptors (is that a word) that are given along with the age rating. For example a movie can be rated 12 for Violence and Coarse Language.

But thats country specific. Those are some of the descriptors for the Netherlands. I don’t know if other countries have them nor whether tmdb added them. And I don’t know if it’s available through the API.

For a movie its added with the release data, example Venom: The Last Dance:

For a TV it’s added in the separate Content Ratings section, example Zina:

But I think the OP means user submitted information. Kind of like the content warnings for books on Storygraph. There’s a list with content warnings and people who’ve read the book and leave a review can select content warnings along with their review. And wether they are only briefly mentioned, moderate or graphic/detailed.

Example of the section on a book page (it’s collapsed by default):

You can click on see all to see all to see how much everything was added to which section, for example:

Hi @justin Have you tried

Have you? Far as I see it doesn’t offer anything besides the ratings, which TMDb already has.

Doesthedogdie This one is the most suggested site I’ve seen. It’s got a pretty decent amount of movies, shows etc as a good starting point. Maybe it can be an option in settings like spoilers since I know some folks consider TWs spoilers. And if there aren’t any triggers in their database, maybe a link to add to it?

I do like the idea of trakt users submitting to trakt itself though for the sake of simplicity. Maybe like a filterable comment section
