The old search box used to execute the search when clicking the little button in the box or pressing Enter. In the new search box, it appears that you can only execute the search by pressing enter. I used the click to execute search functionality a lot so losing that is a big blow to my usability.
Do you use the website or one of the Apps (iOS or Android)?
Believe it or not, this is a more common way of functionality for search bars these days. I’m a web developer so I see this trend a lot now. Either way, it shouldn’t be that big of a difference…you are already using a keyboard to enter your search term(s) so just simply tap enter/return when finished typing.

what’s the point in trying to diminish my concern? it is a big deal because when i am accessing the site from my HTPC, i don’t have easy access to a keyboard. i am just using a mouse.

I was just trying to add context to why they made the decision they made for the new search bar.
Also, if you don’t have access to a keyboard, how are you typing the search terms into the search bar? I think you are mistaking the concept of what keyboards are.
i highlight the text with the mouse and copy paste it into the search box via right click

I am also often used search button with mouse after ctrl+v because I already use mouse to access search bar and need mouse for next navigation (I know about “/” button). Now more hands moving, that is better for circulation I suppose.
