I got it. I won’t be renewing next January. $30 a year wasn’t too expensive for me, but $60 is not worth it to me. It’s also a bigger chunk of my monthly budget for the month it renews. I mostly got it to support them, but it must be getting too expensive to maintain.

I mean, if there was ever a reason to ditch Trakt completely, this would be it. I personally believe their service isn’t worth what they are asking for. ID RATHER PAY FOR A YEAR OF WORLD OF WARCRAFT then 60 bucks a year for this service… What? You think I’m gonna pay 60 bucks a year to have a larger watchlist? Newsflash, the only reason I used your service was because it links to radarr/sonarr so well and grabs stuff off my watchlist. I now have no reason to use your service once so ever.
From here on out, I’ll just use Overseerr to add new content to my sever as I do not have to pay them a cent to use their service.

100% price increase! That is steep. Your value prop doesn’t support that. There are numerous applications out there that offer much of what Trakt offers for free or much less. Very disappointed to see this. As a longer time VIP customer I am going to have to consider the value being offered at twice the price. At $60/year … you are charging what some streaming services charge … and they provide actual content.
Side note … servers are actually not as expensive as they once were. I realize you are trying to provide reasoning but that’s not it. At $30/year … you should have plenty to cover costs. And at $30/year you will have more customers. At $60 per year you will likely lose customers … maybe a lot of customers.

It is great Trakt is such a useful system but it is annoying and of concern that these Apple loving people (see the whole problem around them creating a proper Android App, "no they said, we have to fix the Apple App first) think they need to indiscriminately increase prices whenever they feel they need a pay rise. It feels like the thin edge of the wedge, they will gradually reduce the size of the Freemium lists until there is nothing left.
Secondly, based in the US their pricing possible feels OK to them but when it is converted to almost any other currency it quickly becomes unreasonable. This is incredibly short sighted, channeling users into a pay plan and restricting free users is fine but overcharging for that pay plan is so not good. They should be urged to consider those paying for the service, their users, and stop treating them as some kind of cash cow.

I did receive the email, when I saw it. I came to the forum to make sure it wasn’t a joke, when it wasn’t a joke. I cancelled. 12 years VIP comes to an end in February next year.

Hmm, gotta admit, i don’t think I ever got the email about price changes, and I don’t generally read the forums here. I’ve gone back and searched, and no sign of it, although if it went to spam, it would have gotten auto-deleted by that point. My renewal hit recently, so it was a bit of a surprise seeing the price increase. I’d have to say the notification about this was pretty, well, piss-poor. On top of that, since I don’t really do as much tv tracking over the summer, was just discovering the new “improved’ website that I’m quite frankly finding an absolutely mess - pretty, but lacking the functionality that worked for me before, and I’d have to say I’m pretty disappointed. But they got their $60 from me for this renewal I guess, but definitely it’s the last. Guess I should have been paying more attention.

Honestly couldn’t find a toggle for it? Kinda looks like once you’re in lite, it doesn’t show the toggle or something (note, I was doing it via a web browser on a computer, not on a phone or through a web app on the phone). Did discover that if you go to trakt.com it redirects you to the lite version but trakt.tv doesn’t, so that’s at least a plus that I can get into that. Course, then also found as part of wandering through that, my membership renewed near the end of september, but is now paid through the end of november next year. Seriously, they charge the renewal fee two months before the end of the subscription? I know I had a reason back when I subscribed to think it was worth paying a yearly fee for, but I’m having problems remember exactly what features I’m using that it made sense to do that. Looking at the feature list, my only assumption is that I thought I was using it enough to be reasonable to throw a few bucks their way, and maybe I wanted the year end summary, plus maybe the re-watch stuff? Honestly, don’t think I used anything else in the list. But yeah, definitely, need to set that so it doesn’t renew again and I don’t get suckered for another $60 bucks.

they gave everyone two free months when they had the major database crash a couple years ago. With the payment processor they use, they’re not able to adjust your renewal to the end of that time so it kept renewing at the same date you initially subscribed on.
First email I got about this change was from Paypal last night, telling me it is doubling.
Cannot fathom what the additional subscription cost is meant to cover for VIPs, but instead the non-subscription users. Which is fine for whales to help support the rest of the site, but I am certainly not a whale and the only reason I pay is to keep the servers stable.
