Set TV Show as Dropped, Watching, Completed or on-hold

Major big other tracking sites like TV Time and Simkl have the option to mark a show as dropped, watching, completed or on-hold.

I know there is a hiding option, but this one does not do what I want. I would love to see in the progress page see a list of shows that have been dropped, completed, on-hold and watching.

Dropped and on-hold shows I still want to see in my progress, because I did see some episodes of it, but not on my main dashboard, because i don’t watch them anymore/ at the moment.

Would love to see this option as well on Trakt.

I just created lists for that.

Lists are indeed a nice option. But I wish a more official way like SimKL and TV Time that integrates with the progress more and the dashboard.

It’s not something I very much miss. It’s something MyAnimelist has, but I don’t really use there either.

You can hide shows from your calendar (and I think it also hides it from your dashboard then…) so I guess that would be a solution.

Yes, know that option. But I like to hide things from dashboard when it is on hold, but not from my progress itself, when I want to start it again. I think MyAnimelist, Simkl and TV Time does this much and much better then a ‘hiding’ section which Trakt does.

The hiding sections are independent of each other! You can hide stuff in progress, but not in calendar and the other way around.

I was just thinking earlier that I would like a feature like this. Particularly I’d like to hid a show from my up next to watch on my dashboard but still have it on the progress page. I find I’ve started a rematch on some shows but then don’t want to complete it. I’d like to still have it on my progress page if I take it back up but not on my dashboard as I like to track my weekly releases there.

I think that dropping a show would be an interesting stat point too. How many people just straight gave up on a show. I know there’s definitely a good few for me!

You can unhide fairly easily just by clicking on the item on the settings page when you’re ready to start again. The progress/history is still there whether it’s hidden or unhidden from the progress page.

I have a list of “maybes”, shows that aren’t quite interesting enough to be on my watchlist, but that are on my radar and I’m keeping an ear and eye out for trusted reviews.

Then I have a “Maybe Try Again”. These are the on-holds for me I guess. I usually end up hiding them and I can review the list and unhide them if I decide I want to watch them again. This way they aren’t clogging any of my valuable real estate, but aren’t just mixed in with my “dropped” which are merely hidden and not on any of my lists.

It would be an interesting stat on a show level too. It could also be a factor in deciding if you want to watch. Also interesting to see how far through a show people watched before they “dropped” it.

Although this could potentially be a stat without adding a new category/field. Some kind of overall/global progress bar on a show.

I actually stumbled upon this as well. I would love to see “Hidden shows” in a separate list, I consider those to be dropped.

Sorry to bump this but this is what I miss from TV Time. Hope this will be considered. But since this post was a few months old already and no sign or response from the dev, then maybe it’s not on the plans at all.

Came here just to suggest that - I have a bunch of shows in my calendar that never got me going after pilots.

I used other tracking apps as well which have this:

  • Watching
  • Paused
  • Dropped
  • Completed
  • Plan to Watch

Paused and Dropped would not show up in next up. Paused are for shows you want to finish later and dropped not anymore.

Although the hide function is nice. It is easier to just go to a show for example and mark it as watching or dropped or paused. On sites like Anilist you can also add a note why you drop it and other users can see why you dropped it and which episodes you have seen:
User watched until episode x: because (optional)

On some sites you could fade ‘dropped’ shows as well in lists, because you don’t want to see it.

As there are more and more tv shows produced nowadays and not all are worthy to watch, we wait for a full season to drop or outright cancel it, I would suggest new status for tv shows.
As already suggested here (https://trakt.uservoice.com) I would suggest the following new ways to classify shows:
“Abandoned”/“Dropped”
“On Hold”
“Completed”
“Watching”
“Plan to watch”

This would enable a more fine tuned version. Even better: Make it a VIP feature.
Normal users still get the “Watching” and “Completed” status while VIPs can mark it as “Dropped” and are able to hide it from the Dashboard but may want to see it elsewhere on the profile.

Edit: This is already a thing on MyAnimeList and working wonderfully. Please add it!

The above post was merged in, and my response to that post below…

This is something we’re considering and there are other topics in this forum about it too. Trakt already has the concept of plan to watch (Watchlist), watching (< 100% watched), and completed (100% watched). I don’t think it makes sense to make these a manual option when we can automatically know about it.

What is the difference between dropped and on hold?

One idea we had is if a show is hidden from your progress and hidden from the calendar, we consider the show is dropped. Would that make sense?

Thanks for consolidating.
Imo the difference between “dropped” and “on hold” is:

  • On Hold = Currently not watching but still interested. Like a 50/50 of dropped and watched. Trakt could automatically change the status from on-hold → watching when detecting a playback.
But it could just be consolidated into watching.

  • Dropped is actually crucial. I may watch something and decide the content is not worth it anymore. Hiding it is not really a solution to me. I still wanna see it everywhere. Just not on my dashboard. A
high amount of dropped stats would also indicate that something turned bad along the way. Maybe even visualize it as a perk?

Tbh I never tried the feature of “hiding” a show. To me it indicates completely erasing it from my account but still keeping the progress. If it is not that, please correct me.
The dropped stat would do something similar but not hiding it.
I think this page from MyAnimeList is a good visualization for tracking purposes: https://myanimelist.net/anime/38000/Kimetsu_no_Yaiba/stats

No. It’s like you just don’t see it on your up next anymore. You still have it in your history. Just not on your dashboard.

You can also hide it from calendar because you probably aren’t interested in new episodes if you drop it! But that’s an individual hide function iirc.

I understand. Thank you for correcting me!

But I would still advocate for specific stats that indicate a dropped stat. Easier to filter, indication if something went bad.
Feels like “hiding” an item is kinda “Dropped”-Lite edition?

Oh and just thought I should mention that you can unhide stuff too, via settings horizontal menu on web!

https://trakt.tv/settings/hidden

I have lots of seasons hidden for example for stuff that I’m just watching the current seasons of:
