Trakt gets a makeover!

I really like the purple, red feels like such an aggressive color to me, and I always thought the purple box after something had been marked watched clashed horribly with the red, but being able to choose what color theme you want could be a good way to appease everybody

Sorry, but the purple doesn’t work for me. Thought it might be a temporary Halloween thing, presumably not. It just doesn’t - for me - work on the progress and dashboard which are the two main tools I use.

The logo’s nice though!

Yeah, the purple with dark knight mode enabled doesn’t meet WCAG2 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines). I don’t mind the color change, but please don’t forget about accessibility.

EDIT: Actually, it also doesn’t meet WCAG2 with dark knight mode disabled. I think lack of contrast is the reason it feels so weird.

Maybe it’s just because I am used to it, but I very much preferred the old logo - the new one looks more like a todo-app in my opinion, the purple is really neat tho! What some other commenters have suggested, maybe a “retro” option for the old design would be great.

I agree with some of the above, preferred the old. The purple writing just blurs on me.

I’d rather the android app got some of the features of the iOS version, like rank reset, than visual changes

Well I don’t like purple so the new visual is not really my thing. Also I think it looks a little weird in dark mode. Just my opinion though and I’m sure some will like it.
I would really love a colour option.

A generic purple checkmark as the new logo, really? I really want an option to switch to the old layout. But since supporting two different designs is a ton of work, I assume that is out of the question. Another redesign that actually does nothing better than the old one.

I am sorry but purple doesn´t to it for me for the text. Red had a very nice contrast and was clear to read. For the progress bars on a show page it´s like you don´t event see them at all.

For the logo it might need to get some used to but as of now it doesn´t feel like Trakt (even more as a favicon)

Even though I like the colors I agree the logo does resemble more a to-do list app.

Exactly, we want our old theme back. PLEASE!

I don’t see any reason why switching to purple was a bad idea. I find it interesting so many people complain about it, to be honest.

I don’t use the website much, always preferred the iOS app, but I checked it now just to see the new theme and I don’t see anything “bad” or “weird-looking” on it.

There’s a bit too much purple. Red and black looked better. Oh well, I guess I’ll have to get used to it

I personally do not mind the color change and like the look of the new logo!

I do feel that the new font is much harder to read and condensed then the old font though. This new font feels a little too bold and in your face compared to the previous one. Please consider giving us an option to change the font. Thank you!

Although the new style is nice, the purple is a lot harder to read in Dark Mode :see_no_evil:

I’m very much ready for bed so imma have to keep this brief hahaha:

  • The new font is awful and in some cases not very legible, i’m struggling to see how this would pass any form of accessibility tests.
  • Brand identity is super important and i can appreciate a recolor (even more so when its my favorite color), but the red was your brand identity, feels a shame to throw that down the drain tbh.
  • The new color suffers the same problem as the font, legibility. I can tell you right now without even checking that its going to fail basic accessibility tests.
  • This one is more subjective, but i’m really not feeling the new logo. I agree a little sprucing up/modifying was needed (at some point) but i feel like this kinda missed the mark.

Unlike a lot of people, i’m very much for change in all aspects because changes to styles, branding, ui/ux etc excite me (on both a personal and profession level). But this rebrand? It could have been handled a lot better. I hate stepping on peoples toes, as i’m sure (or hope) there was a designer involved in this, but this is really sloppy work :sob:

We appreciate all the comments and please keep them coming. Just like any major change, we’ll continue evolve the design and handle things like better accessibility over the coming weeks.

Oh hell nah. Red was cool, the T was cool, the font was cool. It had identity. Now we’re all having another ToDo app getting lost on the phone after using it for two days. Or what? The future’s looking bright? The only thing being bright is that horrible purple, it’s hurting my eyes!! My favourite platform is ruined :sob: Jackie Chan does not approve.

Please just don’t update the iOS app, the app is one of the best looking apps out there and the old logo is so much nicer.

I actually don’t hate the redesign, which is surprising to me, because I almost always hate redesigns. I’m not saying it’s better, but it’s not terrible. I could get used to it fairly easily.
I think going with purple is a mistake, though. Red feels inextricably linked to Trakt’s brand. Purple kind of makes it seem like you’re trying to copy Twitch. Perhaps the fact you both start with T is not helping in that regard. Twitch kind of has a monopoly on website purple.

I feel like that might be the crux of everyone’s feedback.

Personally, I’ve no strong feelings one way or the other. Yeah, the site looks a little different now, with different colours and font. Ok, so what? The checkmark does make it come off as a to-do app a bit, at best it makes no difference, at worst it’s confusing. As I don’t really use the apps, I’m not sure what those looked or felt like… but fwiw, visual identity ≠ user experience. Nice attempt there though. Changing one does not automatically translate to the other. Visuals definitely don’t have anything to do with how intuitive anything is to use, in any case (something could look flashy af and be a nightmare to use, or conversely, something could look plain and puritan af and be a breeze to use). As for clarity and ease of use: yeah, again, personally I’ve no issues with any of it, but then I’m fortunate enough not to have to rely on accessibility features yet, so I can only refer to others, who already pointed out potential problems.

All in all, I don’t mind the design itself - I just can’t wrap my head around why it was needed, and this post didn’t really help explain or justify it either. Exciting stuff are always coming down the pipeline, that’s standard PR hype.
