I must say I love the purple color! However I feel like the people who don’t like it should have the option to use the old style? Excited to hear more things are coming. Keep it up!
I’m guessing branding is just not a corncern here?
Nuking both the logo and the color is not a good choice imo, this feels like the website was sold and the new owners are rebranding, i would expect a rename to ‘Checkt’ anyday now…
New logo looks like a random free todo app, not linked with the Trakt name at all. I rather you used a T logo to check progress instead of changing the logo to look like a checkmark (and even the texts to “Trakt it” instead of “Check in” maybe?).
The purple is just not it for me, for the titles or texts it is really annoying to read (hard to focus on it even…), i don’t really mind it on the progress bars or the tags tho so i’m guessing is something about using a purple font not the color itself.
The changed font i don’t mind it that much, but i always thought the “up next” show titles could get some sort of redesign to allow for more text on them.
I agree on all points. I actually like the new font and the new purple, but just not in this context. The whole redesign feels a bit incoherent and the new font in all the different sizes contributes a lot in this feeling I believe. It works well for bigger titles, but not for the small text as you pointed out and make the white on black text harder to read (it’s hard to focus on the text in the navigation bar). Part of the text is also cut off in the up next section of the dashboard.
The logo is also a bit bland and, as for many others, my first thought went to a todo app and I’m not getting movies or tv shows at all from the new logo.
With the checkmark the logo looks now like yet another todo-app. Why! The previous „T“ was iconic, unique and cool. You can’t seriously replace it with a chexkmark!
Same as a lot of others here, my main issue is I don’t like the purple for this. Especially at night it’s way too aggressive on the eyes compared to the red. Will have to tinker with a stylus theme to change this if it doesn’t get rolled back.
Also the new logo feels very generic whereas the old one actually had identity, though I don’t care all too much about that. Will just be some minor getting used to finding the new favicon on my tabs. But it does feel like a downgrade.
All in all just feels like a whole lot of unnecessary work for something that nobody particularly wanted.
Sorry, but this is a massive accessibility fail. You’ve made this whole website so much harder for me to use. The UX is much worse for me now, bordering on unusable.
The contrast here is way off. It’s not strong enough. The purple text in both light mode and dark mode is an accessibility nightmare. Even in Light mode, which I had to switch to to read the headings better, the navigation is still dark and the links are hard to read. The purple progress bars in the Up Next section are hard to see.
And the logo looks like Instagram made a todo app.
I hope you didn’t pay for this because I’d be looking for a refund.
For anyone having usability issues, like me, I use a Chrome extension called User CSS and used the code below to get it back to a somewhat usable state:
I thought I had toggled a setting or there was a Halloween theme going on as I was using the site at the time.
I like the colors, the purple accent looks good to me although I haven’t really used it long enough to know if I will adjust like others have mentioned.
I’m not sold on the logo though, I struggled to find it amongst my quick tabs, I do see what was trying to be achieved though, ticking off lists, shows and movies.
I think I still prefer the old icon maybe if that was changed to reflect the new color scheme.
Wow! This is looking absolutely fantastic so far! Saw it change in real time. Love it, keep up the great work! There was even an animation to transform the old logo to the new one. That’s a sweet detail!
I’m not sure… I won’t comment on the creative aspect of the logo but this feels like a makeover just for the sake of it. It looks like Trakt has lost its identity. I believe the logo could be refreshed or modernized, but it shouldn’t deviate more than 20-30% from the original or it risks becoming a unknown “brand”.
As for the new colors, I’m not sure how I feel about them either. For a regular user, it’s like YouTube suddenly going purple, Steam turning green, or WhatsApp becoming yellow. For people familiar with these apps, it wouldn’t be a pleasant change.
Edit: Also it’s shape, the circular version looks a lot better here.
I feel like the purple is more difficult to read on the dark mode, but the white text with the new font on the dark background is fine. Meanwhile, the purple looks fine on light mode, but the new font is harder to read. And, I think if you’re going to have a workable UI, it needs to work well on both.
Also, perhaps I’ll get used to it over time, but it does strike me as less stylish and unique compared to the old one. It looks more like a logo I’d have on a to-do app, so it really doesn’t standout the same way.
