Font is nice. Color is unusual, but feels great after a day. Generic ‘to do’ logo is too generic. Like every second app in play store/app store ![]()
First of all, (most of) the change really doesn’t matter to me, I really only use my own History page to keep track (trakt) on my recently watched log.
But…
- Yes, the font is definitely horrible. It hurts my eyes, and I had to read a longer text with that font, I would give up and close the site.
- Yes, the purple links are one of the most stupid things I’ve ever seen. Since the start of the Internet, purple links has meant “an already visited link” – and while that isn’t really used any longer, using purple links still makes the design look aged and absolutely horrendous. And this is from a person who’s favourite color is actually purple…
- Yes, the logo is terrible. I understand the checkmark aspect of it, but since you already had a strong logo with the tilted T, I can’t fathom what made you change it. It now makes me think I have Instagram opened in my tab.
While this change doesn’t affect the actual functionality of the site, I hate that the two recent big changes (this and removing duplicates, destroying my 12 years worth of data) has been either a completely garbage use of time and resources, or actually removed one of the biggest functions on the site for me.
Instead of a huge redesign that looks mostly like a Halloween prank, why didn’t you just make different themes that the user could set themselves…? If they like white text on purple backgrounds that makes most people’s eyes bleed and the text impossible to read, let them have it, and spare 98% of the rest of us.
You already have the dark/light functionality. Expand on that into more themes that work for more colours if you, for some ludicrous reason, want to stray away from the classic red colour that has actually put you on the map. What will happen tomorrow, will Facebook turn green?
Thank you all for the great feedback. Here some answers to common questions that keep coming up.
- The official apps will be updated with the new branding, it’s just taking longer to get approved by Apple and Google.
- We’ll be adjusting the hue of purple in some areas to improve readability, this will help in dark night mode specifically.
- Some areas will drop the purple links, such as upcoming schedule.
- Logo in the top left and the loading animation are temporary, fun ways of showing the transition to the new logo. (Hover over the top left logo if you haven’t already)
We’ll have some adjustments out early next week.
A change is as good as a holiday.
I must say, I really like the new look. Well done!
Well…what can I add that hasn’t been said already? The purple is just terrible and difficult to look at, the new font also makes it difficult to read things and I won’t even comment on the new logo, which is fine I guess, at least if this was a to-do list app or whatever.
Been a user for the last 12 years, love the site, waited forever for an Android app which is awesome but this is the first really that I’m really considering using another app/site for tracking my viewing habits.
Why change what it isn’t broken? And why change the red that always has been the identify of the brand? I truly don’t understand… I hope you really take into consideration the countless feedback there is in this thread. If people prefer/like the purple that’s great! But please have the two options (or more!) for those of us who don’t like it.
- The text color* already looks better than it did yesterday!
- The “You are watching” bar is still red, and I think might be a good place to implement the new purple.

I liked the old look, but I like even more this new look
Cheers!
Very nice, thanks ![]()
Everything had its own color: lists were blue, collected - green, and watched was purple, everything else was red. Now it’s a blur. The red progress bars under the posters were catching the eye more, now it’s just disappearing under it. And I hate the purple, too much purple. The font is hard to read. Logo is fine, but the checkmark reminds more of a to do list then a tracking website. I wish I could go back to the previous look…
Hello,
Colors are absolutely great for me personally
Font will need a getting used to, but i believe in time it will sit really well
Logo, in big sizes looks cool, but as it gets smaller it becomes apparent that “it’s to much going on”, and that is never a good thing in digital logo design imo, so not bad, but not great
my 2c ofc ![]()
What is the name of the old font? I loved it. Would love to use it for future web design projects
I don’t mind the purple, if I’m being honest. I love purple as a color. It is way harder to read all the metadata with Dark Knight mode turned on, though. Maybe a thinner font would help? The ALL CAST & CREW words aren’t as bad, but the updated date/datasource text on the left-hand side are harder to read. As are usernames on comments. Maybe brighten the purple to match the playcount button? I don’t mind the purple for the progress bar under shows on the dashboard, and I actually like it a lot for the titles under the Upcoming Schedule section.
I don’t think I like the new logo as much, though. In fact, I’d say it’s entirely nondescript. I can see where you tried to keep it related to the old one with the white outline and three lines making up the checkmark, and it looks fine on the Check In button, but it works way better as some sort of secondary logo that enhances branding than as the primary logo which is supposed to lead branding. There are so many checklist or to-do apps that have similar-feeling logos. Knowing it’s related to the old one only matters if you know the old logo. Making this the primary is a pretty big miss for me.
Adobe Fonts: font-family: proxima nova semibold; font-weight: 400; line-height: 1.1;
I don’t know why, but I’m not seeing any of the changes, either on the IOS app, nor the web version when accessed through my phone browser??
I love the redesign!
Completely agree with this, just feels like a change for the sake of it. The colour red was a core part of Trakt’s identity and brand which really should have stayed (along with the old logo).
Super excited about getting this new look on Android ![]()
So just ignore all the feedback and carry on regardless then? ![]()
Please listen to your users. Adding options for users to set their own preferences is key.
Forcing unliked changes that users have no control over is a great way to alienate users.
Allowing users to choose their own accent colour and icons is the better way to go about this.
Don’t become X.
Trakt has been one of the best user interfaces I’ve used in the last 10 years. Please keep it that way.
Thank you for your work y’all, I’ll do my best to explain my criticism.
The color by itself is a nice shade, but it’s not good usability wise - it’s hard to read in both dark and light mode. Maybe it’s the contrast or font?
As of this moment, I’m having a hard time looking at my dashboard, it strains my eyes.
And the logo… Right now, if I may be blunt, it looks like a mix of the Instagram logo and every other to do list app.
As someone that’s been using the site since 2014-2015, It’s clear to me that it’s the watched button check mark - but from an outside view it looks… bland and generic.
I doubt a rollback will be made, and supporting two designs doesn’t sound efficient. If the change stays, I might have to seek out other options after years of usage out of unusability alone.
