VIP Costs Too High?

Even in Italy Amazon Prime costs €50 ($52), less than Trakt’s $60.

Besides the fact that one produces movies and series (in addition to including music, cloud space, fast shipping, etc.), the other just keeps track of them: and the first is significantly more expensive than the second.

I understand wanting to make a profit, but maybe these are not the right prices at which to do it… maybe, and I repeat maybe, it would be better to have 5 paying users at $30 than only 2 at $60.

I subscribed years ago because it cost $30, I continue to be a subscriber because I continue to pay $30. If I were a new user having to subscribe today at $60, I would not have even remotely considered subscribing.

I think, Prime regional prices should give Trakt a very good idea of how to go with regional pricing. For example, if they are going with $60 in US where Prime is $140, that makes it roughly 43% cost of Prime and offer Trakt VIP even after rounding it up at 50% would still be better. They can look at regional pricing like in Italy and make it €25 for Trakt VIP and similarly AU$39 for Australia.

It would be a good start since they already have a big company like Amazon as a template. More likely than not, as you said, 5 or even 10 people will get it at that rate than 1 or 2 at beyond expensive rate, doesn’t even make sense let alone affordable if Trakt costs more than streaming sites.

Regional pricing would help the user base with the recent limitations.
It would not solve the issue of Trakt being worse than it was for non-VIP (and also VIP) users, but it might lighten the situation a bit.

As an example, in Hungary, Trakt costs the same as one of these (when looking at the yearly price for each at the discounted rate) services:

  • Netflix (720p, no ads) ~ half of the US price
  • Prime ~ third of the US price
  • Max (Standard) ~ half of the US price
  • Disney+ (Standard) ~ half of the US price

We could argue about the value of these streaming services and Trakt, but in my opinion, a tracking service should not cost as much as an actual streaming service.

My dear, you are completely confused in your answers while changing your shoes in the air:smirking_face:: first, you close access to the service from my country (Russia) and cancel your free subscription, then they complain that the costs have increased and there is nothing to pay with. Where is the logic ???:thinking:
PS Oh, by the way, how about paying the authors of the Kodi plugin that they developed for free to access your service ??

I don’t subscribe to the auto-payment feature. So I went to buy another year and learned the price of VIP is 200% of previous year because I’m not now a member. Also observing my lists have each been limited. I guess message received.

The adverts that pop up cover those costs and more.

There’s no ads though!

I don’t know where you’re seeing ads but can’t be anything native Trakt. Maybe a third party app?

I use the website and there are ads.

Do you have a screenshot and link of the page?

Trakt is roughly $2.50 A MONTH and that’s still ONLY if you want to pay that.

I’ve definitely spent more on coffee more times than I can count so I don’t mind paying the cost.

The simple thing is if you don’t want it, you don’t have to have it.

$2.50 only for old VIPs…

That may be however even at $5 right now that’s £3.84 GBP a month which is less than a large coffee…so my point still stands. I don’t mind paying for someone or a teams hard effort is what I’m saying. especially if it’s a product I use, time is money after all. Old VIPs have also been paying for longer so if anything newer members are just playing catch up…

Maybe another option where you get less features might solve that then? I’m not taking sides. Just merely giving my opinion.

Ads for Trakt on Trakt don’t count as ads…

Regional VIP pricing is now available in iOS.

I used a browser with zero extensions (like ad blockers), and I clicked on every single page I could find. The only thing that resembles an Ad is just Trakt promoting VIP (see image below)…which as those above said, that’s not an Ad.

You don’t have it so bad. I live in Canada and recently paid my $60. and got charged $90.02 Canadian. I have removed auto renewal and will see what the exchange rate is at that time. I didn’t mind the $60, but I do object to the $90.

Flawlessly executed price increase as it seems.
