Curious where streaming service availability is pulled from because whatever the source, it’s not good. I have a list of movies I want to watch that I filter by my streaming platform to track when they become available. The list is only about 70% useful because of the lack of accuracy. Comparing to JustWatch, it’s pretty noticeable that the source of the streaming in Trakt isn’t good.
Few examples that I have:
Arena (2011): Trakt says it’s available on Tubi (it’s not). JustWatch doesn’t show it on Tubi
Beyond Borders (2003): Trakt says it’s on Tubi (it’s not). JustWatch doesn’t show it on Tubi
Dobhi Ghat (2010): Trakt says it’s on Netflix with Ads (it’s not). JustWatch doesn’t show it on Netflix
The list is quite long, those are just illustrative.
Trakt also takes it from JustWatch. My 1st thought is that maybe it is invalid country is selected for streaming services info? Check Trakt settings streamings section for that.
I agree, I also use Just Watch and ReelGood… I did have paid subscriptions to both but since discovering Trakt, I have reverted to the free versions. I still definitely use them though.
Interesting - I’ll do this in future but now seeing a separate and distinct problem but related. Not sure if I should post separately so I’ll report here and move it if needed.
Summary: I have a giant list of movies and shows I want to watch, independent of availability on streaming platforms. I have my favorite streaming platforms set up (those that I’m subscribed to) so I can filter the list to see what’s available on my platforms.
When I go to the larger list and filter by streaming platforms a lot of movies show up indicating that they are available but when I actually click on the streaming button, it actually shows that they aren’t on the streaming platform. So, there’s an inconsistency at the list level compared to what’s actually accurate for the item.
I suspect that’s because it looks like Tubi uses really fuzzy search. Typing in “Arena” results in a whole slew of movies ranging from “the Arena”, “Serena”, to “The Parents” etc.
FWIW that movie is available on Amazon to rent for free right now with Prime for a limited period.
