Has anyone else been incredibly disappointed with NetFlix? NetFlix as a company really sucks now. I reactivated my DVD account, and much to my surprise, they’ve gotten rid of all the major classic TV shows. Relatively speaking, they’re down to almost none. Come to think of it, they should just shutdown their DVD entirely. I wouldn’t use it anymore if someone offered it to me for free.
Their streaming service is no better. They’re incredibly over priced, and their movies are really mediocre now. I’m incredibly disappointing. You know what? I enjoy VUDU way better than NetFlix these days!! Never thought I would hear myself say that!!
No DVD Netflix here, but I’m still a huge fan of Netflix. Sure, if you just navigate Netflix you’re stuck in some bubble based on what you’ve watched. But I like to use a site like unogs.com alongside it. That site shows me what’s new and what’s leaving Netflix in my country, and then I can find some “hidden gems” that I probably wouldn’t find by just scrolling through Netflix homepage.
I am enjoying Netflix at the moment (though need catching up due to summer of sport)
There are some good things in other languages which dont get recommended on the home screens
I have enjoyed things from various European countries (currently enjoying a spanish show) and I do enjoy Korean horror
They are a refreshing change for me compared to the usual UK/US content
It’s obvious that the DVD portion of their business is goin’ by by. I’ve read many articles on it. Having said that, I do think that not everything on their streaming service is all that bad. They have what I interpret as “good quality,” such as “The Originals,” “The Defenders,” “Stranger Things,” “Godless,” and “Peaky Blinders.” I’ve also seen some pretty scary Indian horror movies too. Although, I’d really wish studios make more of an effort to create English dubs. Now, if we can only get Netflix to stop abruptly cancelling the few shows they have.
Not seen any indian horror, thanks, will check them out
Forgot about the other things you mention, i mainly watch in original language with English subtitles
The English dubbing is very bad at times, it almost makes things sound like a comedy with strange accents
I have stopped reading about the future of shows before i watch them, just watch as though it is something new, then the future of it is an unkown, then when you find out after watching that there is no more, go ‘that sucks’
With it’s negatives, i still find Netflix good value, it provides a good selection of genres, just dont expect to get the latest blockbusters
YES!! I had that same experience when I saw “Fukushima 50 2020.” I think the bottom line is most foreign producers don’t see a point to spend extra money for skillful Asian Americans to do the translations correctly. This is a real problem, because they want to be international, but they don’t want to pay/do international work to compete. Not only that, gone are the days of the flying martial artists. Today, there is too much visual action going on to read subs. It almost makes you feel you have to watch a movie twice.
Some of the foreign movies on Netflix I found to be enjoyable are all of “Ip Man” movies, “The Untouchables (2011),” starring Omar Sy. Although “The Untouchables” got a bad Netflix rating, I enjoyed it a lot. It had a lot of touching (no pun intended) moments in this movie. “Triple Threat (2019),” starring Michael Jai White was awesome too (Lots of action). “Force,” and “Force 2,” are two action packed Indian movies. “Ghoul,” and “Betaal,” are two Indian horror mini series.
These are not on Netflix, but if you’re interested. Search for the following Indian movies, “Das Boot,” (some of the special effects are corny, however, it has some very scary (jumpy) scenes)); “Mardaani;” “URI;” “Bhoot: Part 1;” "The Divine Fury (2019) (Asian horror);“K.G.F. (2018) (the cinematography is jaw dropping in this Indian action).”
Ok, that’s enough… Sorry for writing a book… I think most people who enjoy foreign films will like the above movies/shows I recommended…
Imho Netflix benefited greatly from the pandemic. Their general catalog of shows and movies feels bigger than ever over here and they still produce some decent stuff from time to time. That said, I’m not paying for my own account so I’m OK with only occasionally making use of it. What I’m really tired off though is how they present their content. The new categories they switch in are often odd, promotional artwork gets butchered for ever changing thumbnails of unrecognizable stills from movies, shows and movies lack context like who the creators are and they won’t allow you to mark something as seen or hide them (like seriously, most of the screen is filled with stuff I’ve either seen or won’t ever watch…).
Yes, that’s very true. In fact, in the beginning of the pandemic, I read that many people suffered sever bandwidth issues due to more customers being home and hitting their ISP network. This wasn’t really surprising to me tho, because we’re in the age of UHDTV. So, unless you had a very expensive premium plan, you were getting throttled. LOLOL
I hate how content repeats in more than one genre. I also noticed that there are a lot of content they don’t show. I literally have to visit another blog to find out what Netflix has hidden. That’s not cool. They charge too much money for me to have to do all that footwork.
I ended up cancelling my account when the pandemic started. I was paying the premium plan and then they throttled it to half the bitrate. I get it why they did that but also I’m paying the same for lower quality? I dunno, I canceled my account thinking I might end up going back but never looked back. Also I’m a big horror fan and sadly in my country netflix doesn’t have good stuff, so I find most of their originals predictable and boring.
Yeah, the problem (I think) is mass production. All entertainment today appears to be more like ordering fast food. It’s not about quality anymore. They only thing these streaming services appear to focus on is, poring in special effects & signing on a big named actor. It’s no longer about the art anymore. Creating art should never be run as if it were a supermarket. Art creation takes time and focus. You don’t take only 2 days to produce a bad TV show, cancel the first season a half hour later, and then put out a stupid statement “we’re losing money and have to charge more.” Or even worse, increase the charges without telling their customers.
Exactly! I feel like nowadays netflix is more of quantity instead of quality. They even added a “play something random” and I can’t understand why. I feel like they are going on the wrong direction, you can have a lot of stuff but if most of it isn’t good what’s the point? They also have a bad reputation of cancelling TV shows without giving them proper closure.
I ended up signing up for prime video because I feel their stuff has higher quality.
But I’m tired of waiting for an Android beta. It’s a complete slap in the face to the vast Android community. Especially VIP’s. I’m 1 second from not renewing next year. I’m sure I’m not the only one. If you’re developing this for Windows mobile also, good luck.
Let’s keep this on topic please, there are plenty of other threads about Android. We’ve explained before that we know the apple ecosystem better, so we started there. Happy to continue the discussion in the Android related threads.
