\user\settings.json - here settings about some user named justin_v2

Strange.

My backups to Dropbox contain the oddball “justin_v2” data under settings.json but my watched folder, for example, contains current activity up through earlier tonight.

This could be related to which service your backups are being sent to, maybe, if it’s not Dropbox. That’s as far as I can speculate though.

Experiencing the same issue

Just checked my backups, everything seems fine. Mine go to Google Drive.

Mine go to OneDrive

My data backups were always saved to Dropbox.

After discovering the problem, I tried sending them via email – I received the same empty archive.

I think this doesn’t depend on the destination – the archive is generated on Trakt’s side.

Tried adding Google Drive - with same results.

It would be interesting to hear a comment from support at last.

Can you please try the new exporter in the new version of the website?
We created that because of the recent issues we are having with the old one.

You can access here: Trakt Web: Settings
Just click in the “Export now”:

I’ve already informed the developers about the issues with the old one, so they are working on a fix. For now, the importer at the new website should work better.

There’s nothing better about this abominable “new” website.
The fact that the export function works is not an improvement. It’s rather surprising really. And even here, proper functionality is lacking. Instead of files organized into folders, everything is dumped into one big mess.

I hope that the normal, automatic mode will be restored. Thank you for your reply.

The new exporter is clearly work in progress, it was just described as a workaround for now

Yes, as temporary workaround it’s surely acceptable.

I also have the same issue with my `user/settings.json` and my backups go to both Google Driver and OneDrive. It’s affecting both

So, this means the trust-building measure you implemented after the daylong database crash a few years ago cannot be … trusted?
I mean, it is not as if trust is a resource you can afford to waste in abundance lately.

And a GDPR takeout feature that provides data of another user is not just a trust-breaker, but a punishable offense if you operate in the EU. (And you clearly take my money from there.)

I can confirm the problem. I set the automatic data backup to E-Mail and the last (hopefully) complete backup came around mid of January. After the first almost empty backup, I answered to that mail "(“if you have any questions, just reply to this email and we’re happy to help”) - never got an answer.

Manual export on the current website produces a broken backup, too. The manual export via the new website as mentioned by Sonply did work!?

Is this a similar case like with the Year in Review 2025 where somehow layout changes break things and/or remove functionality (for paying VIPs) …?

Info: Latest backup via mail was complete again.

Indeed. For the past few days, Dropbox backups have been uploading correctly.

Thanks to the Tract team for the fix.

Yup, I can confirm this too
