Automatic Backups

Hey all

So I’ve been using the automatic backup function for a number of months now, and have them uploaded into Dropbox weekly, everything is working well, and I receive my backups as scheduled. Today I realised, I don’t actually know what to do with them.

I assume you must be able to restore a backup somehow (should you wish to for whatever reason) but I can’t seem to find a section on the website where you can upload one of the zip files (probably just blind)…Not that I need to right now, but assuming if at some point I have a catastrophic failure and need restore my data, this is what they are used for?

Thanks.

I think there was supposed to be plans in development to have a section in settings somewhere where you can take your backup and do a restore from one of your backups.

I do know when trakt had that devastating database failure a while back and they had to do a restore, they temporarily had the option to do a restore in case their restore failed for your account.

Right now, I don’t think there is a way to restore from a backup yet. I could be wrong.

Oh got ya, cheers! At least I know they’re currently unusable and can stop looking around on the website for where to upload them :joy:

I think there’s some third party trakt apps that may already support the restore of the zipped up json backup. I don’t know which ones do.

Good point, probably cinexplore and moviebase if I had to guess…will take a look…thanks again.

Moviebase supports the creation of backups automatically. The backup file is in JSON.

However, I can also develop another approach for you (e.g. exporting in a CSV file).
