Better Twitter Card

It would be nice to have an improvement for Twitter Card.

Currently Trakt’s simply shows a frame from the title, or the croped poster, for example:
twitter_trakt

Ideally, it would show the full poster of the title, with other info (title, year, episodes, rating on Trakt, etc.) from the site on the side. This would give shared links a more modern look, and more recognizability on socials.

As an example, here is what other sites similar to yours show when shared on Twitter (AniList has the best layout in my opinion):
twitter_anilist
twitter_simkl
twitter_tvtime

Those do look a lot better. The poster for shows and movies makes sense. Any other examples for episodes? That still seems like the episode screenshot is better.

“Why not both?”

Look at TV Time’s card. Have the poster there on the left and have the yellow area be a screenshot for that episode. Then just put relevant text beneath both of them. Just to offer one possible layout example.

The following are not my screens, I just looked up the names of the various services (AniList, Simkl, TV Time) on Twitter, they are random examples of other people’s shares.

When you share an episode watched from Simkl:

When you share a rating from Simkl:

When you share an episode from TV Time (apparently in this case is tweeting a image):

AniList has no episodes.

Personally, I would use the poster in any case whether for movies, anime, shows, seasons, individual episodes, ratings or comments… it is more aesthetically pleasing, additionally an episode screnshoot for someone might be a spoiler.

The information I would like to see is:

  • Movies: movie title, movie year, rating on Trakt
  • Show: show title, show start-end year, rating on Trakt, number of seasons/episodes
  • Season: show title, season number, season year, rating on Trakt, number of episodes
  • Episode: show title, season number, episode number, season year, episode title, rating on Trakt
  • Rating: same as above depending on the media, plus user rating (but this I suppose requires a custom link with a custom image, which then redirects to the Trakt page of the media, perhaps?).

@justin now that automatic sharing on Twitter is working again, is there any news on the improvement for Twitter Cards?

No news yet, but it is on my task list to look into. I don’t have an ETA right now.

Just to say that after the last recent update of the Twitter user interface it is even more necessary to improve this aspect, at the moment by sharing a link you only have one image, without title or anything else.
