Block votes until a movie/show is actually out

I firmly believe that it’s ridiculous for movies and shows to be able to receive ratings before they are actually out to the public or even premiere to critics.

Yet to be released titles should be ineligible for score voting.

Just look through the most anticipated list. They all already have a high or low score when some are not coming out for over a year. You could argue that it won’t matter by the time they are actually out and recieve more votes but

  1. Smaller movies and shows that get less votes will be impacted forever and can affect if people watch them.
  2. It looks bad/sloppy and can also create confusion to users.
  3. It devalues the legitimacy of Trakt voting and scores.

REQUEST: Block Trakt score votes until the movie or show is released to the public.

Thier solution doesn’t work though. I have the setting unchecked on global settings which means these bullshit ratings should be hidden for unreleased movies/shows yet they are not hidden as I’m still seeing them.

Again I get for big shows this isn’t really a problem post release but for smaller titles and many foreign language media it is an issue. Especially because the type of people to vote early are more likely to give a troll 1* rating in my experience.

People need to stop making this suggestion, because it makes no sense and wouldn’t solve anything. Users will always be able to rate a title they haven’t watched, whether it’s released or not, so who cares if they do it in advance? And why are you even looking at the rating of an unreleased title? No one is forcing you to do that.

I think OP has a fair point. Letterboxd does this.

Plus it’s a little inconsistent. You can’t check-in to watch something before it’s been released or aired, so really one shouldn’t be able to rate it either.

That being said, there are obviously people who are invited to pre-release screenings and their reviews and ratings are of interest. But this becomes difficult if not impossible to monitor the veracity of.

A good compromise might be if it were possible to have ratings / comments before a release date treated as a spoiler and allow people to hide them if desired.

That is also ridiculous honestly. Thank god I can still use the normal site.

It’s not often the Netherlands is ahead. But theres this Flemish show that’s now a week ahead of Belgium. I didn’t see it in my up next anymore which is why I noticed it. So I have to go to the season page.

Im even behind on the Dutch release schedule but I’m still watching it sooner than Belgian release lmao.

Yes that would be perfect.
