'Classic' third-party app

Hi all,

Does anyone have a good suggestion for a third-party Trakt app that most closely mirrors the ‘classic’ Trakt experience?

Currently Watcht but it hasn’t been updated for a while and is coded by @Ohifriend who spends most of his time now coding the app here.

In the Apple realm of third-party apps…

:information_source: I’m also the developer of Rippple. The following list and grouping is reflecting my personal and biased opinion. I’m also a big Apple fanboy which also affects this ranking a lot.

Most integrated with Trakt would be:

If you want to explore different UI/UX:

Maybe more limited in scope but if you are looking for apps that do one thing well, I would suggest looking at:

Should Sofa Time be included in this list?

Oh, yeah, I forgot about Sofa Time. Sync is quite good and the app is updated regularly. I’m adding it to the second list because it’s not a Trakt-first app but the level of integration with Trakt seems to be extended enough (ie: the last update even fixed the dropped shows sync!).

Showly and Cinexplore are good for Android.

I would had tv show tracker on Android (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jonathanantoine.TVST) and apple too ( ‎TV Show & Movie Tracker App - App Store )

Thanks for the suggestions. Having tested a few, I think Showly and Sofa Time are closest to the Trakt experience I’m used to. For me, the preference is Sofa Time.

As a side note, I think you should be transparent that you have a financial stake and therefore conflict in this discussion, through Rippple. While you didn’t put your app first, you have ranked it much higher than most.

I ranked it that high because it’s (to my knowledge) the only one with Watcht that uses Trakt as a primary source of data (which makes the sync faster and more reliable), requires you to sign in to Trakt (I know this can be a negative point for some users but it makes those apps more “integrated”) and touches a lot of the most obscure endpoints (features) of Trakt.

But you are right, I’ll update my post to mention I’m also the developer of Rippple

Thanks Kevin. I appreciate that.

Out of interest, one of my main turn-offs with Rippple is the lack of a “continue watching” bar. Am I just missing it?

Also, putting lists behind a paywall, when you can access them free on the Trakt website.

otherwise, I like the look and feel.

There’s what I call a “To Watch” tab that is also behind a paywall :grimacing:
Compared to other apps (and Trakt), that feature is quite advanced. You can add/remove different lists to build your own Movies or Episodes To Watch list.

I had to paywall different things to make the Premium version attractive. I’m lowering the paywalls from time to time, I’ll think about this again.

Thanks for your feedback!

If you are doing regular backups in Trakt, it may be easier to delete all data and restore from the backup and add anything you watched since.

Note: I’ve never tested recovery from backup so I can only assume it works.

I’m so sorry about that, I’ll keep working to improve the sync performance and make it faster and more accurate. Thank you giving the app a try, it means a lot.

I’m really, really sorry about that, I’ll make sure this doesn’t happen anymore and continue improving the sync. Thank you for trying the app, and I apologize for it messing with your collection.

Moviebase is a good app for Android. Now also fairly usable again.

For me, having tried a LOT of different apps, I prefer Rippple and Showly. They integrate the things I like about Trakt the best, and just work smoothly.
