Do you use the feature to remove ratings?

Do you from time to time use the feature to remove your rating from an item completely?

There’s some context to this, but since I want your answers to be as unbiased as possible, I won’t mention it yet.

Only if I misclick and accidentally add a rating to something I haven’t watched yet . I change ratings sometimes, but never remove a rating after i’ve watched something.

Context is that this feature won’t be coming back in v3:

The system is designed such that accidental ratings are very low probability. Since a rating is performed once something is watched, we consider removing the rating entirely a non-option.

Lmao weird

I sometimes change my rating after re-watching a tv series when I discover my opinion about a certain show has changed.

Very occasionally I accidentally rate something too high or low and change it for that reason.

I hope the option to change or delete ratings does come back in V3. It would be very weird not to be able to change your own ratings. Opinions change, accidents happen. I want to keep control over my ratings. I want to be able to change or delete a rating for whatever reason I have.

You can already change it, just not delete it (which I find very weird nonetheless, it’s taking away a perfectly fine option for no apparent reason).

Ah ok, I should’ve tried V3 first before commenting. I’m mainly using the stable Android version and v2 web & mobile.

I agree that it’s weird that you cannot delete your own rating. I don’t get why they want to remove that functionality. If you look at IMDb for instance, you can edit & delete ratings. It would be so strange if deleting them wasn’t an option anymore all of a sudden.

Like you said: why remove a perfectly fine option for no apparent reason.

Trakt developers keeps making decisions to change features based on how they think users should be using the features instead of how users actually use the features. Collections/libraries, notes, and now ratings. Regarding the latter, I frequently delete ratings I’ve made in error. It is easy to do contrary to Trakt staff’s stance of “The system is designed such that accidental ratings are very low probability.”

My case scenario…I only rate TV series as a whole once completely aired and watched. I don’t rate individual episodes, and I don’t rate seasons. Many, many times I have accidentally assigned my rating to the final episode of the series instead of the series as a whole once it has finished. With v2, I can delete the erroneous rating on the episode, and then rate the series as intended.

Doesn’t much matter for me. My VIP subscription ends in January. I won’t be renewing due to the price increase. The changes with the new V3 interface have only further cemented to me that cancelling is the right path forward.

I hope you sharing your experiences will make them reconsider that decision.

@Steffe73 You are able to do that with V3 of the web interface that is being rolled out? I tried to after reading @CanePlayz post, and I cannot. For now, I can still remove the ratings by clicking on them a second time in V2 of the interface. I just tried again in V3 to see if something has changed. It has not. Clicking on stars in the rating after an item has been rated only toggles between half a star and a full star. There is no way I can find to delete the rating entirely.

Yes you can still remove ratings in V2. The point of @CanePlayz post was to identify that the ability to remove ratings will no longer be possible in the new and improved V3 of Trakt which is intended to replace V2 at some point. New users are automatically signed in to V3. Unless they are perusing the forums they may not even be aware that V2 exists.

Thanks for that! Interesting. Is that the iphone or android app? I have only tried to remove the rating in the V3 web app. And using it, I have not been able to do so. I don’t currently have the app installed on my phone. I’ll probably do so now to see if some the missing features in the web app I and others have noticed are still available in the phone apps.

long press the checkmark to get the option to mark unknown date

Hallelujah, it seems to be coming back after all

3 taps hahaha

imma quote myself quoting a friend

It seems odd, yeah

Holy, that’s some UX I haven’t seen in years. There’s a very good reason 2+ tap commands never made it mainstream in the UX world. I remember when companies were experimenting with it 10-15 years ago to see if it would pop off, and surprise surprise it never did.

Yeah, they should just give us a pop-up or some view where you can hover over the stars and have a button to remove ratings, ain’t that hard:

Here’s a simple mockup implementation made with Opus

You can actually remove ratings now by clicking on the rating again. Yippie
