I was looking at my Year in review and there is a thing that bothers me. TMDB genres are kinda limited.
There is only these options for TV:
Action & Adventure, Animation, Comedy, Crime, Documentary, Drama, Family, Kids, Mystery, News, Reality, Sci-fi & Fantasy, Soap, Talk, War & Politics and Western
They consider Action and Adventure, Sci-fi and Fantasy, the same thing.
Now if you look at the stats, almost every time the number of shows with those genres are the same because of this, which is inaccurate. There are Fantasy shows with medieval setting being considered Sci-fi.
Now if you look at the genres there you can see that Superhero and Romance are there, and they don’t exist on TMDB. That happens because some of them don’t have genres registered on TMDB so they come from TVDB.
(There is also some cases like the arrowverse shows that have Superhero and that genre is not on TMDB. And one Adventure show that isn’t considered to be action. That one is Outlander, for some reason the genres are different for that one on TMDB)
Now TVDB has a lot more genres. And they are all separated.
I think it would be better if the genres came from TVDB, since they make more sense, have a bigger variety and apparently some shows are already getting their genres from there so it should be possible.
Otherwise most of the time Action and Adventure, Sci-fi and Fantasy, will be the same, and genres like Superhero, Romance, Horror, History, and Thriller will barely exist (at least for tv). And that messes the stas.
