We’re happy to announce our Trakt importer! Easily import your watched history and watchlist from IMDB and Letterboxd. If you need something more custom, we can also import CSV and JSON files.
New members will see the importer as part of the website welcome wizard. Existing Trakt members can run the importer too and you can import as many times as you’d like.
If you have any questions, just reply to this topic. If you have a more specific data issue, please email support@trakt.tv and include the files you’re trying to import.
Happy importing!
What data is imported?
Watched history and watchlist.
What services are supported?
IMDB and Letterboxd. We’ll allow Trakt JSON backups to be imported in a future update.
What if I want to customize my import?
CSV and JSON files can be imported too, and are easy to customize or adapt from other services. There are guidelines on the import page for the exact format we’re looking for.
Can you add service X?
Maybe! Let us know if you have suggestions. Most data is going to be some variation of CSV or JSON, so that’s a good starting point for us to investigate.
It’d be a nice feature as well to be able to import not just history and watchlist, but other lists as well from letterboxd or imdb to either an existing list (user choice) or to a brand new list (user choice)
at last! been wanting this since forever. Thank god though for some many years now of the excellent import feature app that a user has created (and dublicate remover).
I have from ages ago before trakt my list on myepisodes.com. I think they offer with subscription an export .csv or something on the watch histroy. Will that work ?
Also what happens with duplicates. If an entry is allready watch will add a second watch or it will warn.
Really cool! I want to import my watchlist from Letterboxd but not my diary. With the CSV file from Letterboxd, I don’t have any IDs for the movies. Will it be possible to import only my watchlist in the future?
Welp, unfortunately I can say that it’ll add doubles to everthing if you’ve ever done an import before.
I just did it and I checked and I have a lot of duplicate data. Now I’m considering I may have to backup my entire Trakt database, wipe it and then reimport it after I clean up all the doubles…
what duplicate remover, what usual run ?
I do not think that exists in trakt. There is an app for that that is all i know.
Trakt does not give you a report of duplicates nor it removes it cause some duplicates are legit.
So since all that i do not think that this import is helpfull. Can we have an option for duplicates checking and not adding (an option for those who want to add)
A short time ago all duplicates were removed and this is an ongoing thing as far as I am aware now.
No duplicates should appear in your history like they used too.
There was a whole topic on it and it’s merits.
Have a look here.
yes, that is thought from bad apps that just gave hundreds of the show in the same date and time.
But i’m talking about duplicates not the same time and date. Imagine that i have my vert very old list from myepisodes.com, i may or may not do not remember if for example have added LOST in my watchlist in trakt by using the “watched on release date” function.
So if i import the .CSV then the episode will definitely will not be the same date and time so it will create a duplicate with different time stamp. That is why i’m asking for it to have an option to handle them.
I wasn’t aware of the duplicate deletion thread and just read through it. Frankly I have no idea HOW Trakt will handle it because Letterboxd does not log TIME. Only date of watch.
So how are they to know what is a duplicate or not other than a watch on the same date?
Although, on second thought if an import of the same Latterboxd data twice creates duplicates, then they should be easy enough to catch because it’ll log whatever same time for both (I assume).
I guess it will? I opened a support ticket regardless.
