šŸ’¬ New Trakt Feedback

Hey everyone :waving_hand:

As we roll out the :high_voltage: New Trakt default web experience, we know that some of the features many of you use every day are not there yet or are not as complete as in Trakt Classic.

That is expected at this stage and we are working as fast as we can to close the gaps.

 Why are we doing this again?

We do not want to simply copy features from Classic as they are.
This is an opportunity to modernize, improve consistency across platforms, and fix long-standing friction while still supporting the workflows you rely on.

Your feedback is the key to making the new experience better than ever.

:speech_balloon: What is the one thing you are missing the most?

Let us know:

  1. Which feature you really need in the New Trakt
  2. Why it matters to your experience
  3. How you would like to see it work or be improved

Whether it is a big workflow blocker or a small detail you use daily, we want to hear it.

 How your input helps

Your comments will help us:

  • Understand real-world use cases
  • Prioritize what gets built next
  • Share clearer progress updates

We will follow up soon with what we learned and what is coming next.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us.
Trakt has always been shaped by its community and this next chapter is no different.

Thank you, kcador, for asking our opinion.

My biggest wish for the New Trakt is being able to scroll vertically, in stead of endless scrolling horizontally. I am also aware that this fundamentally screws with your current UX/UI setup.
It matters to me because my brain registers the old trakt as clear, fresh and certainly not cluttered. The new trakt doesn’t work for me in that way, since I cannot ā€˜oversee’ my dashboard at one glance.
For me, I’d like a toggle.

Also reacting your anouncement of New Trakt:

It already delivers a smoother, more reliable and more accessible experience with a consistent design across web, iOS, Android, Apple TV and Android TV, along with broader support for more devices, regions and languages.

You are clearly seeing this as fit for future, the way to go forward. You are stating the new designs as smoother, more reliable Ć”nd more accessible. I believe ā€˜more modern’ was also used in that same post. So what makes you say that? It comes across as you stating facts, so what research have you done and can you show us the ā€˜numbers’?

My only references are what I read (selectively) on the forums and my own personal opinions and preferences. That is why I am eager to understand how you, the Trakt team, came to these conclusions and subsequent UX/UI changes.

Hey,

Thanks a lot for this feedback! Notes taken.

What I can share is that the metrics (monthly active users, new sign ups, retention and churn, overall satisfaction,…) we are following are not showing any negative impact. I would personally love to share more about this. I’ll just check with the team how we can communicate about it.

Just to be clear, and I think you said it in the another thread, we also follow trends in our industry and rely on the expertise of our design and engineering team that is evolving too. So, while we look at our metrics and customer feedback to make sure we are not totally off track, we also make assumptions and try things.

Are you referring to the new Android Beta? You should be able to leave the beta.

This was a year ago. People have been using it.

A lot of things have changed in a year. Not sure everything has been addressed when I don’t know your specific usage or what matters to you specifically.

You can switch from New (app.trakt.tv) to Classic (trakt.tv). I do it all the time when I’m not on a third-party app.

Had to reinstall the app. No beta or anything app just broke yesterday.

Can you please share more info about your device? It’s always displayed but it shouldn’t take a quarter of the screen. A screenshot would be super helpful.

If you had to choose one, which would it be?
You can still get a vertical list in a single tap. What if we made that even easier?

I understand the frustration of the price increase. I don’t understand why you are saying we don’t listen to our angry paid members.

To you, it may be ugly and not useful. But you are not really saying what is ugly and/or not useful.
If we are just talking about the vertical up next, it is there, one tap away. And I’m repeating myself, but if you tell us, we can make it better.

The Android version from the Play Store?

And I keep telling you (as in, the users complaining, not you specifically) that the people complaining are not all our users and that we are not ignoring anyone.

We are maintaining and improving our infrastructure and Classic website, while shipping new features and new experiences, while not breaking every integration we have with third-party. It may be slower to fix an issue on the Classic website and that’s the point of the New Trakt and the whole announcement.

And we are fixing them, while also doing all the other things.

The price increase was made to cover infrastructure costs and the growing team. Yes, we have future plans. Yes, things are going to change. We’re not making those changes to justify anything. We are making changes and improve a product we deeply love and care about to make it better. That’s the only justification there is.

And yet, here we are.

I’m sorry to hear that, truly. But I don’t think forcing anyone on a paying product they don’t like is the way to go either.
If what you are saying is you will stay with us on the free plan, that’s all good too.

I took one look at the new website and really disliked it so much, I don’t know where to start offering constructive criticism other than it would be best to abandon before you spend anymore time on it.

Classic website is still far superior for windows desktop, and the iOS app is best for iPad and iPhone.

The new website is so bad that initially I thought I was looking at one of Trakt’s competitors that is miles behind.

Sorry if this is not the sort of feedback you want, but it is just really, really bad.

Okay, I guess we are not counting from the same edges or something like this
I mean, it’s not more than a quarter of the screen in any way I can see it.
But I get your point, it’s big enough to be annoying when it’s not what you want.
It is only there when you are watching something tho (and a little after but you can close it then).
I’ll get your feedback across the team anyway.

You can scroll it up and down vertically.
If we increase the size of the posters, you’ll see even less vertically and horizontally.
Are you comparing this to the ā€œoldā€ website? Or to an app (official or not)?

Noted!

I understand the overwhelming feeling, no problem. I already like that you made the distinction between devices/screens. Maybe you can send over some feedback on specific use cases you have for discovering new content or tracking your viewing or sharing comments or logging your rating,… I would love to hear from you, even if it’s a long list. I can get the essence of it and take it from there. You can send private messages if it’s easier. Whatever works for you :hugs:

New Trakt seems to be missing show season premiere and finale tags and no way to filter these as well.

We are going to keep Trakt Classic stable and available while the new experience matures.

It will take time. But we also want to reduce that time. That’s why we announce this change of focus today.

There is nothing in our communication or our changes so far that indicates we are forcing anyone to do anything.

This is simply not true.

This just feels like an unnecessary personal attack :face_with_peeking_eye:

So you are not using anything we’ve been working on for the past year?

And this feels like an unnecessary attack on the whole team.

You have Continue Watching on the home page with a vertical list when you tap the title.
You can manage your history from the Media Details page and you have a row of your Personal and Social activity at the bottom of the Home page. If you tap on the title, you get a list of your activities (aka history).
Your profile sections shows ā€œyour month do farā€ and your favorites. We are going to get more personal. We are working on Library and Notes integration, it’s just not used by many as many as just tracking.

Please look at GitHub, the New Trakt is open source. You can also search the forums for the Product Roundup I started doing monthly. If you want to see progress, you can see progress. If you don’t want to see it, then I can’t help.

I’ll let Justin answer if he wants but since I’m here… I don’t think this is the way to get your feedback across. I don’t even know what you are expecting to achieve with this. I deeply feel it hurts the community more than anything.

Thank you for your feedback :purple_heart:

I think my biggest issue with this announcement is that while it may be easier for the devs to have a more ā€œunifiedā€ look, I’ve never liked LITE for the web because it feels like a phone app and specifically NOT a webpage. I actually like the design of the iOS and specifically tvOS apps because they are light and functional, I can see my Up Next and click on a show to launch it. I’m not doing a ton of Metrics analysis or organizing on it. It’s a Dashboard.

But for the website, I want something Robust, which is why I have tried LITE and always immediately revert back. To reiterated what’s been said, Vertical scroll 100000x over the horizontal.

The complete absence of the Progress Page, which is my most visited, is absurd because I like seeing more direct details than Up Next provides. I like being able to instantly sort so I can see what’s next, but also then get a quick idea of what has the least time, change the sorts and see views without having to go deep into Settings to change my Up Next for two seconds and then change it back to what I’d like for my Default.

As a point of Glitches, my Up Next on LITE also shows hundreds of things that are shows I’ve dropped, movies my ex maybe streamed 10 years ago and never finished, etc, all of which don’t show up on any of my Apps or Classic Dash. This also may be personal usage bias, but does anyone actually use/want a Continue Watching for Movies? Isn’t that a part of just having the Watchlist on the Home.

As I play with it more, I may have more notes, but thought you’d want some more constructive feedback.

I remember the theory was different when I joined Trakt
Also, the timelines don’t match :man_shrugging:

I said I’d work on communicating some stats.
